Jann Holwick Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Wonderful, very experienced surgeon. Very professional in all aspects. Good pre-op care and screening, good post-op follow-up. I have absolute faith in her surgical competence. She's not the touchy feely type, but her manner gives you confidence. Easy surgery, no complications. Open RNY 07-05-2001. I think she does lap surgeries now. Allegheny Hospital in Low Moor was great - super nurses - much better than I expected for a hospital in the middle of nowhere!rnrnAfter care is a new term to me - it's been so long ago that I had my surgery, so I don't really know what this means. I recall that she scheduled routine visits post-op, weekly, then monthly until about 6 months, after which it was annually. She used a dietician from the hospital. I didn't like her advice - basically was wanting to put me on a Weight Watcher's diet once I was back on solids. I totally disagree with that approach - if diets worked, we wouldn't be fat! Dr. Holwick recommended that I join a support group in my town - Low Moor was about an hour away. I never did join, but she knew I was active in support groups online. I think her main concern was just performing a good surgery, and making sure I was staying healthy while I lost the weight. I haven't seen her for years - we moved away 3 years ago. I'd have to say, she focuses a lot more on pre-surgical information - she wants to make sure you know everything you should beforehnd, and she doesn't gloss it over. She's also happy to tell you her rates of complications and casualties, which was comparably low at that time - I have no reason to think that has changed, but I really have no idea at this point. I would not be comfortable with a surgeon who wasn't honest about those things. It was a very positive experience, and I would recommend her to anyone.

I found Dr. Holwick and her PA, Julie Crocker, to be knowledgeable and very easy to to talk to. Both of them were very helpful with regards to explanation of the procedure and the risks involved. They were GREAT!
The office staff is wonderful. I just recently went back for a follow-up, 5 months out, and everything was fine.
Based on my experience, I would highly recommend Dr. Holwick to anyone considering having bariatric surgery.

I really feel comfortable with Dr. Holwick and everyone in her office. They are all very knowledgeable and straight forward about everything. They explain their process, the insurance co’s process to what is expected of me. I feel very confident with Dr. Holwick and her staff. Dr. Holwick was very informative and upfront about the procedure, risk and healing time. She was very supportive and friendly. I am very excited that I have chosen her as my surgeon.
The staff was very helpful in going over all that will happen before, during and after this surgery. I will go back on the 18th of Nov. 04 for more education and test. I feel that if I had never done any research on my own before seeing Dr. Holwick, that I would be as educated as I am now with researching this surgery on the web for over 2 yrs now. They really want to make sure that you are 100% comfortable and understand everything.

Dr Holwick is a very kind lady and made me feel at ease from the very beginning. Her office staff was very informative and also answered any questions my husband and I asked with no hestitation. I really couldn't say that I didn't like anything about her. She's great!! She was very upfront about the risks involved with this surgery. And, made it clear to both my husband and I. I would rate her at the top of anyone's list.

My first impression of her was she let's you assistant do all the office work.
Well it didn't change much because she still let's her assistant do all the work. But she is nice but she is just not their enough when you need her.
The office staff is very nice and they will do anything they can to help you.
well when I was in the hospital I think I saw her maybe 3times the other times I saw other Docs that she sent or her assistant.
Well when you see her you should ask all the questions that you can cause you may not get to see her much.
Well I can't say because like I said I saw her assistant more than her.
She like to send you for test. But I can't really say anything bad. Because when I did see her she was very nice.
Yes she has the dietetion to come up and talk to you and everything.
Well she let me know all of the risk that was to be told. I really do think that was explained very well by her assistant
I would rate her has a very good Doc she know what she is doing. Because she did make sure that I was taken good care of even if it was by her assistant.
Surgical competence, well I would have to say when she was their she had good beside manner. so I would say both were great.

My first impression of Dr. Holwick was that she seemed friendly. She is very laid back, not real talkative. She came in very comfortable, in her sock feet, no shoes. She answered my questions and told me about the surgery. She told me of the risks involved, etc. I spoke more with her PA than I did with her. She came in first and went over everything in detail with me and my husband. She answered all my questions and told me what would happen pre op, during surgery, and after surgery. She told me about the aftercare and was very helpful in answering my questions. She was very pleasant. Her office staff seemed very pleasant and helpful as well. I was told that they would submit everything to the Insurance and that it would probably take about 6 to 8 weeks before I heard anything from them. She said as soon as she got the approval letter, she would call me with a surgery date. She took several pictures of me and sent me on my way. She said I should receive a letter in a couple of days with a date to see the Internist. That was about it. It helped knowing alot before I got there. They just kind of confirmed everything I already knew.

I met Dr. Holwick on yesterday. She seems to be very conscientious and has a pleasant personality. She was very thorough in ensuring that I understood what would happen before, during and after the surgery. Her staff was very pleasant as well. This was the first time that I met any of these individuals and I have a peaceful feeling about them. When I called to schedule the appointment was my first exposure to the office staff. They sent me an entire package of information detailing pre-op procedures, surgery information and post-op care. At present, I rate the doctor and her staff A+!!!
