Dr Champion was very professional and the things I liked best about him were that he was down to earth and spent all the time he had to to answer all my questions. He comes in the room sits down beside you and looks you directly in the eye giving you all his attention. He is very straightforward with his answers, yet very positve, too.I felt comfortable with him. I learned, too, how talented he was. He teaches other doctors how to do WLS laproscopically. I'm so glad I chose him as my surgeon. His staff is wonderful and very helpful. The thing I liked least was that 9 days after surgery I experienced severe abdominal pain and called his office. He was on vacation and Dr. Kaplan was covering. He had me brought to Atlanta (4 hours away)to run tests. All the tests showed everything normal and after 3 days the pain subsided.Dr. Kaplan still didn't know what the problem was and neither did I, though my gut feeling was it was severe cramping.I was never able to contact Dr. Champion during that time and talked to a nurse after I got home who had had the same surgery and she told me she had the exact same thing happen to her. It was basically a rebelling of the intestines after surgery and they go into severe spasms. All I needed was strong muscle relaxers and I could have stayed at home. I was disappointed that Dr. Kaplan was not aware of this after effect as he was covering for the specialty surgical patients of Dr. Champion. Overall I believe Dr. Champion is an excellent doctor and surgeon. I just think it was bad timing(luck?) on my part that this happened while he was on vacation. He addressed the surgical risks before surgery very detailed and completely. His surgical skill is excellent and his bedside manner is very good.

He was very tall and good looking. However, I am impressed with his skill. My surgery was suppose to take 90 minutes to 2 hours. Instead it took about an hour. I would recommend the laproscopic proceedures that he does to anyone that is considering the surgery. If he has a weight limit on how heavy anyone can be to have the surgery laproscopically, then it has to be in the 400 lb range.

Dr. Champion exemplifies skill, profes
sionalism, and compassion. He is a highly
competent surgeon who has vast experience
in both lap and open surgery. My preop inter
view was detailed and informative in all aspects of the surgery. There is no doubt
that Dr. Champion enjoys helping people re
gain their health. Since I was an out-of-state patient, he took extra care before sending me home from the hospital and he made
sure that I would have a support group to follow with. Judy, his office nurse, was warm, helpful and caring-what a difference that made to someone so far from home. As an
RN, I researched very carefully before I chose my surgeon. Dr. Champion stands out above the rest.

Dr. Champion was a wonderful person. He was kind and and never treated me different because of my weight. He's still a great person after 8 months. He's very encouraging and helpful. The office staff were wonderful also and helpful with all the insurance info. and paperwork. He has like a contract that you sign agreeing to exercise and not to eat things like ice cream. He also emphasizes the use of vitamins and protein suppliments. This is very important. He explain both the RNY and the VBG and the risks and benefits of each one. He didn't push either on me but let me decide on my own which was best. I was told of the risks and the percentages of those complications.I think surgical competence and bedside manner are both very important and Dr. Champion has both down to a science. He's Great!!!!! I have had no negative experiences but everyone is different.

I only met with him briefly. He seemed to be kinda scripted but down to earth. I wasn't sure about him at first but I really liked the staff and the way BTC was set up for the overweight patient. Since then (five months ago) His staff has been helpful in getting insurance approval and faxing necessary forms to take to my other doctors.
He did tell me of the risks but they seem few and far between for someone my age and weight and as active as i am.
Too soon to tell how I really feel about him.
Have heard great things from internet friends that have had him though. Nothing negative.
