Dr. Kyle Ver Steeg from Fort Dodge, Iowa is an accomplished surgeon both in general and weight loss surgery. He is always very professional, but concerned with each individuals needs and concerns. He and his staff have regular seminars concerning the weight loss surgery and they all try very hard to make all their patients comfortable with their decision. Their support group is great and meets once a month on the 1st Monday night of the month at Ft. Dodge Library.. There are interesting meetings along with the accountability of weighing in and keeping track of each members weight loss. Dr. Ver Steeg attends most of the meetings himself to answer questions and give us moral support. He was an accomplished surgeon for 30 years before doing the WLS. He addresses the risks of the surgery at the group seminars before surgery and with each individual. He has a very caring quality with all of his patients. I would rate him number one for competency and caring with a nice bedside manner. I experienced a stricture, but was told of that possibility, and was prepared for that to happen. It was solved with a scope procedure and wasn't any problem. The aftercare was very good, with all my questions being answered immediately.
First I attended an informational meeting. At this time he explains the surgical process and the lifestyle change that must accompany the surgery. I was also given information about what most insurance companies require to be pre-qualified for surgery. The risks and complications are addressed. rnrnMy next visit was approximately 3 weeks later at his office. He was on time. He was professional and non-judgemental. I felt that he wanted me to have all of the information I would need to make a proper decision for my life. rnrnThe office staff has been great in both insurance and appointment coordination. rnrnDr. VerSteeg and his team have been fantastic about follow-up! They are really dedicated to post-op support. His wife and nurse, Phyllis, travels TWO HOURS to speak at my support group several times a year. Talk about dedication!rnrnI could not be happier with my experience under their care.
I had a very good 1st impression of Dr. Ver Steeg. He is very open about everything. His staff is more than willing to be there for you before, during and after. They will do whatever it takes to get answers or help you need. He does highly recommend aftercare and support groups for up to a year or more. His aftercare is very structured and he expects you to follow through it all the way or he is not willing to take the risk on helping you have the surgery. He expects you do what he thinks is best for you. It is an all or none situation. Dr. Ver Steeg addresses the risks right up front and he referes to them throughout your steps before, during and after surgery. I would recommend Dr. Ver Steeg and his staff to anyone that is looking for a very caring, open and honest dr. I would rate this Dr. a 10 in my book.
