Great first impression.
Impression has NOT changed over time.
Friendly, phone call messages were never refered by calling party. Always given private conversations.
Liked least: Can't think of anything.
Know he wants the best for his patients. Is very caring. Has high regards for aftercare. The aftercare program is better when you live closer to the doctor's office. He addressed the risks of surgery clearly.
Overall; I think he was good, nice bedside manner and competance seems great. Remember this is only a tool. I/you must work the program. The doctor gives you a new chance at a healthy life.

I loved Dr. Murphy. He always seems excited to see you and the progress. Was very thorough in preparing/pre-op appointment.

Office staff fine, but very busy.

I would recommend him.

My first impression of Dr. Murphy was that he made me feel very comfortable. He was very informative. All of my meetings with him were very good. His office staff were extremely polite at all times and very helpful and kind. If I could say anything about Dr. Murphy was that sometimes I felt like just another bariatric patient to him. He was always kind but always quick with visits. No real complaints though. Future patients should feel very confident in his knowledge and expertise. For my aftercare, I have not met back up with Dr. Murphy, but he and his staff have routine times set up that they want to follow up with you. Dr. Murphy's organization and team were extremely informative with all of the risks of surgery. Nothing went unanswered. Overall, I rate Dr. Murphy and his staff as very knowlegable and wonderful to deal with. Dr. Murphy is definately best at his surgical competence.

My first impression of Dr. Murphy was that he cared alot about how the surgery would turn out and to get me as prepared as possible. My impression never changed. I liked his staff alot. They have went that extra mile for me. The least thing I like about him was that he wanted me to lose 16 pounds before surgery and that made me depressed. Dr. Leo Murphy was one of the first doctors to ever perform this surgery.
Dr. Murphy is extremely anal regarding after care. Yes we have a strutured aftercare program. The risk Dr. Murphy gave me was 1 out of 200 die. (scary) I would rate Dr. Murphy in the top 3. I believe surgical competence needs to #1, bedside manner is just the icing on the cake.

Dr. Leo Murphy is a straight shooter. He tells you what you must do and helps in making a solid commitment for your future health and well being. My impression has never waivered. The staff are great. They are very helpful not only prior to surgery, but afterwards as well. He is very supportive in all aspects of the surgery but is very insistant on the patient doing what is required for successful weight loss and the commitment in keeping it off. The who process is extremely structured. I have several friends who have their surgeries elsewhere and many of them have gained anywhere from 20 pounds to all of their weight back. All of the risks were explained to me. I was also told that I could change my mind about doing the surgery up to the surgery date if need be. I believe Dr. Leo Murphy to be the most competent surgeon I have ever met. His bedside manner is great unless there are complications. I had some problems after surgery that required rehospitalization and Dr. Murphy was not very pleased that he didn't have the answers right away. After a couple of days he knew what was going on and all was well again.

FROM THE FIRST TIME I'D MET DR MURPHY, MY IMPRESSION OF HIM HAS NEVER CHANGED, HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN INFORMITIVE, HONEST, AND UP FRONT, AND ALWAYS ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS.
HE'S EVEN GOT GREAT BED SIDE HUMOR, WHICH HAS ALWAYS GOT ME GOING WITH A POSITIVE ATTITUDE. EVERY TIME I SEE HIM HE TEACHES ME MORE THINGS I NEED TO KNOW TO FOLLOW UP WITH MY PROGRAM TILL I SEE HIM NEXT.
I'M MORE THAN SATISFIED WITH HIM AND HIS WONDERFUL STAFF HE WORKS WITH THEY HAVE MADE MY JOURNEY A SAFE AND HAPPY ONE....
I'M FOREVER THANKFUL! HE'S A WONDERFUL
SURGEON,AND DOCTOR. I JUST WISH HE AND HIS STAFF LIVED CLOSER TO MY TOWN, SO THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO TRAVEL SO FAR. OR I TO THEM

caring, interested, and expects a lot of preparation from the potential RNY surgery candidate.....I had to loose some weight, substitute two meals daily with a high protein shake (pro complex)...to build that muscle in the tummy area especially...and to exercise 3-4 hours a week, and to meet a certain weight on the day of surgery.
same impression over time...and I even understood more..of why he wanted me to do all of the above..This surgery is only a tool...and there must be significant life changes for me to continue to be successful!
I found that the office staff who worked with me setting up my surgery dates were for the most part, pretty cold and uninterested in my special needs, I do not know if others found this to be so. I work with students who have disabilities in the college setting and am responsible for their accomodations when college classes start...so there is a small window of time to have the surgery and recover. After much negotiating on my part, I was successful in getting the surgery date I needed.
no aftercare program, that I am aware of... except 3 month follow ups for the first year with Dr. Murphey and encouragement to seek out support groups in my area, eat well, no snacking, and to exercise. Alos a very fun annual reunion.
yes he addressed the risks of surgery and if I chose not to have surgery.
overall...I love him!
surgical competence and bedside manner..Both GREAT!!!

Very caring and very professional was my first impression and those fellings have strenghthened. the staff were helpfull and kind.
I had to lose 20 pounds before my surgery and that was very hard for me. I kept trying to lose the weight and was very very depressed. But I can now see the reason for the need to lose that weight.
He was able to deal with all the problems, and has been very encourging.
I was given written guide lines as well as support group information. I followed these closely and succesfully.
Because I had heart and lung problems as well as diabetas, oastioarthritis, degenerative spine, hypertension, allergies, kidney and fatty liver. He explained all the risks and told me things to do pre-op to lessen the problems.
He truly is exceptional and saved my life.
His surgical competence as well as his bedside manner work together to make him the fine surgeon that he is.

I must first let you all know that I had wls twice. The first was Stomach Staple in 1986, the surgeon was Dr. Fobi, who I just loved. I've seen him on a number of TV programs during the past 18 years. He is a great Dr., his staff at the time (front office help) was out to lunch (literally). Everything went off without a hitch as far as insurance, pre-op and so forth because he had excellent back office staff. The second time around was the RnY in 1996, the surgeon was Dr. Leo Murphy. Dr. Murphy was very friendly, great bedside manner, I was very comfortable talking to him. The staff was very helpful and professional. How times change. There was no pre-op orientation group or to my knowledge there was no post-op support group for Dr. Fobi's patients at the time. He was my main source for information and support, and he was very informative. Dr. Murphy, however, I attended
a seminar and a couple of classes, and I had to see a psychologist. There is sooo much wonderful information out there now compared to eighteen years ago. attend the classes and do your homework.

Dr. Murphy was/is a real professional. He is very sensitive and thorough with his interation with his patients. He leaves you each time feeling like you are special, and assured. His staff is very helpful, and professional. They are always there for the littlest questions, and very thorough in their work. They seem to really understand and know exactly what we are going through. The information given to you is helpful, and lets you know that follow up care is just as important as your surgery. They have a wonderful program, and Scripps Mercy staff is very knowlegable, firm, and helpful. They give you tools to work with. They educate you on how important prevention of blood clots is after surgery. I really dont think I could have found a more capable and helpful program. I am truly blessed by having Dr Murphy as my surgeon. Everything about my experience with him was the best. I am truly thankful.
