He is a very nice and very funny man. I am very comfortable with both his knowledge of the procedure and his bedside manner. The office staff is very nice, but they do seem somewhat overwhelmed. More about that under insurance. The doctors here have a very large support group and they admit that most of the emotional aftercare comes from that and from their patient liason who had the surgery three years ago and now works there. Michelle is awesome. He was very honest about physical risks and emotional downfalls, they discuss everything...including your sex life. At this point before surgery I would give them an overall rating of 8.
My surgeon was Matt Bosquez, but because i had to postpone it has been changed to Dr. Gorospe. I like him alot too...the reason for the change is that Dr. Bosquez is opening his own new practice. good luck to him and his patients.

My first impression of Dr. Gorospe was good but he did not talk much probably because of time restraints.I found out how many surgeries he has done over the years and realized I could not find a surgeon with more practical experience.
His office seemed helpful and overworked.
Dr.Gorospe and his staff explain to everyone that they are providing a tool but it is up to each individual to use that tool correctly. In other words you still have to watch what you eat and exercise in order to lose weight.
On a scale of 1-10 I would give Dr.Gorospe a 10. I am 4 weeks post-op and have had no complications or problems.
It is very important for every patient to understand the risks involved in this type of surgery. It is major surgery and people do develop problems. Dr. Gorospe and his staff explain the risks verbally and in writing. I know I read a lot of horror stories about the complications that some people have encountered after R-N-Y surgery.I guess I am 1 of the lucky ones because I have had no problems and would encourage anyone to go ahead and have the surgery.

I had my first consult which was a group thing. I know that it is easier to tell alot of people about a surgery than it is to tell just one. The consult from start to finish was about 3 hours. The office is small and we were really packed in there. Dr. Gorospe was very informative and seems to be a competent surgeon. He has up to date information. He really pushes to have a open rny. I don't think he likes to have a time consuming operation like the lap. He performs around 17 open and 1 lap per week. When it came to a one on one conversation all he really wanted to know is if you had any questions. I would compare him to a "door doctor" which my sister calls doctors who stand by the door and can't wait to get out of it. I know that our pcp is our main doctor but he never touched me, took blood pressure or anything. All his staff did was take insurance cards and a picture. You have to use their cardiologist, psyciatrist, and pulmonologist. He says it is because he wants someone he know and can get ahold of if something goes wrong. That kinda makes sense but I just had most of these test including the echo just 4 months ago. Oh Well. You don't even have to have another appointment with him until you see him in surgery. He knows that this is a last resort for most patients.
Overall, in my opinion, I know he is competent or he wouldn't have the referrals from other patients who he has treated. I just wish that his one on one consult was more personable.

I have not picked a surgeon yet. From my understanding there are only a couple in the Tulsa area.
I'm leaning toward Gorospe but I heard he has a partner that does the surgery now also.
I will be attending a Seminar on 9.12.02 and hopefully I can make an informed decision after the seminar.
09/10/02 My PCP informed me my referral was approved to see Dr. Gorospe. I called his office today and got VM with the scheduling person.
I knew they were busy, so the waiting begins.
09.10.02 It took less than 1 hr and the Doctor's office called to set my appointment. After asking the standard questions, Name, DOB, address, Weight, Height.
They scheduled an appointment for 9.18.02
I picked Dr. Gorospe but I understand there is a Dr. Boschez in his office also. I'll have to check to make sure Bosquez is listed under AETNA. Well he Boaquez is listed under AETNA also, so I guess we will just see how things go.<br>
9.18.02 The office staff was great, the herded us in an out and they were very friendly. Dr. Gorospe may need to lighten his patient load since Dr. Borquez is no longer there. He seemed to be pre-occupied and just not that interested one on one. He come off a lot better in a group setting. He was very informative an group and addresse all the risk and benifits. He always let us know it was our choice. I'm pretty sure his surgical competence is way better, I don't think I'll see him again anyway until the actual surgery. His staff is who you have the most contact with.

Dr. Gorospe is an EXTREMELY skilled surgeon. I felt complete trust at placing my life and future in his hands. He was very sensitive to the needs of us bigger gals.
Never once did i feel like he was looking down on me for my size, for that matter he told me I was beautiful. THAT was a FIRST! Michelle his nurse is a hoot. Great personality and also a former patient. It is so nice to have support from someone who has been in our shoes. I would recomend Dr. G in a heartbeat!

I liked him as soon as i saw him.
It hasen't changed at all.
Very pleasent
I liked everything about him.
That he is a very nice person and treats people very well.
He belives after care is very important. Yes he sure does.
He was very to the point about the risks.
I would rate DR, G. as 100 plus.
He's great at all.

Dr. Gorospe is very friendly and really seems to want to help people. The office staff has been very helpful, but they are very busy. It takes awhile to get things done. Dr. G. requires all patients attend support group meetings before and after surgery. He also emphasizes the importance of birth control for his female patients for at least one year after surgery.
He does emphasize aftercare and has a support group. Either he or his partner attends each meeting. He also has one member of his office staff at each meeting.
Overall, he is a great surgeon, I have absolute faith in his abilities. He does often seem rushed during office visits, though.

I went to his consultation in July as everyone had previuosly stated it was crowded.... They were efficient though. I liked the fact that they gave a lot of information.... I liked the fact they stayed till all questions were answered. I met individually with Dr Bosquez and he was wonderful. He answered the other personal questions my husband and I had till we felt satisfied. They strongly recommend the support group which is a good idea. It allowed me to hear several different views at different stages of the bypass surgery. I have heard they do not provide much after care. But with all the information they give you up front I feel it will be fine. I have a wonderful PCP so I am not that concerned about after care. I would rate the team overall and very good. They are more thasn willing to answer any and all questions.
