Dr. G can seem to be a bit rushed when you first meet him, but I think that's because his brain is working overtime! As I have gotten to know him, I have discovered he has a great sense of humor, and he did a FANTASTIC job on my surgery! His staff are wonderful, everyone of them are sweet and helpful. He highly emphasizes aftercare, and attends the monthly meeting for our group, how many surgeons do that? I would give him a 10 out of 10 for surgical competence, and a 7 out of 10 for bedside manner.

I really like Dr. Gorospe. All he does is WLS since 1995. He knows what he is doing and that makes me feel good. THe staff has been great (I have bugged poor Denise to death). His aftercare program is very big and requires you to participate in the support groups. He is at all his support group meetings. I think he is very knowledgeable and compassionate about this. He truly believes this is a disease and they just haven't figures out what causes Obesity.

My first impression of Dr. Gorospe was very positive. I saw him at the support group before actually meeting him personally and he was a tiny man who exudes great energy and vitality. Upon meeting him in person, he was very direct and down to earth, willing to answer my questions and do whatever was necessary to help me get an insurance approval.

His office staff is incredible, very approachable and willing to keep in touch regarding where my case is and how things are proceeding. My initial consultation was not quite what I expected since there was an entire room of others doing the same thing. It was more of a conference set-up, with tons of information and power-point presentations. I didn't meet Dr. Gorospe, either. I met with Dr. Kirk and my time with the doctor was very brief, but he was willing to answer as many question as I had for him.

Overall, at this point (presurgery) I am very positive about Dr. Gorospe and his office staff and am looking forward to my surgery with great anticipation.

UPDATE: I am VERY IMPRESSED with Dr. G's staff!!! They took care of all the insurance submissions and when I was initially denied they went through all sorts of hoops to get me approved--made ALL the calls to the insurance company and tracked down exactly what the problem was with my case, then helped me fulfill the final requirement for surgery AND resubmitted the case on my behalf! I cannot say enough how impressed I am! Had I been left to fend for myself appealing the initial denial I can honestly say I believe I WOULD NOT BE HAVING SURGERY! Thank you, Dr. Gorospe!!!

I first saw Dr. Gorospe in 2004. I was surprised by his small stature, but quickly noted his obvious expertise in this field. I chose Dr. Gorospe based on his surgical skills, and that he is ASBS certified. My niece is a nurse practitioner. She was a former circulating nurse in the operating room at St. Johns Hospital, and had many years to observe Dr. Gorospe in action. She highly recommends Dr. Gorospe. As a registered nurse myself, I KNOW that when another nurse recommends a particular physician, that in itself speaks volumes. Nurses observe doctors in various settings, and they would not recommend someone unless he or she was extremely proficient. Dr. Gorospe recommends that all his patients attend monthly support group meetings following surgery, as well as attending at least one meeting as a pre-op. I like that he has a very structured aftercare program. He and his assistant surgeon, Dr. Kirk, actively participate in their monthly support group meetings. They may not both get to attend each meeting together, but usually one of them will be there. He also has a chat room for his patients.

Went to a support group meeting and this is where I decided on Dr Gorospe and Dr Kirk to be my surgeons. Although I didn't speak with them one on one at the time, they were very informative, professional, and sensitive to the needs of all in attendance. I went in for my initial appointment and was able to speak with Dr. Kirk one on one. The whole office was upbeat and knowledgeable about every question or concern I had. My case worker has had the surgery and that makes me feel very secure in my choice of surgeons. From the start, they initiated the letter to the insurance and from there on, anytime there was a response or request from the insurance company they called me and helped me schedule any appointments needed. This team at Dr Gorospe and Dr Kirks office is the definition of medical excellence!!

On 6-21-2004 I left a message on their web site, today I receive a phone call not only from his staff but him. Very good first impression. I am scheduled for an initial consultation for July the 9th, 2004.

I did not make it to the July the 9th appointment, without insurance approval or financial help there was no need to go. However, if I could be in complete control of it I would have stayed with them.
The person who backed out of cosigning in July has now assisted me in getting a consultation with Dr Gorospe in Tulsa Oklahoma. My initial impression is a positive one.

Dr Gorospe is one of the kindest people I have ever met. He is also, in my opinion,
one of the top gastric bypass surgeons in the entire WORLD!
His staff are also some of the friendliest people I have met so far too.
I am definately looking forward to the surgery!

have been using gorospe, but am considering changing. why? his eyes seem to have more dollar signs in them than compassion for his patients.

I first met Dr. Gorospe at a support group meeting over 2 years ago, when I first started researching WLS. He attends monthly SG meetings to answer questions and provide info. My consult wasn't until February 2005 and I just can't tell you how impressed I am with him. He is very polite and well spoken and the man know his business! He does lap rny and has a better success rate than anyone else in eastern oklahoma. His office staff is wonderful and they give you a calendar with pictures of them and info about everyones experience in the field and their personal lives. If you need to talk with someone in the office, you feel as if you know them.
Dr. Gorospes greatest asset is his assistant, Dr. Kirk. This man is fantastic. While Dr. Gorospe may have perfected the surgery, Dr. Kirk loves the patients. I have never felt so cared for and important. This man takes the time to talk you and your family about any concerns you might have and laid to rest any qualms I might have had about the surgery. Dr. Gorospe may be God's tool, but Dr. Kirk is an Angel!
They are a fantastic team!
They also have a PA named Amber who does a great job of filling in for the Docs. I had a condition I needed to ask about on a Sunday morning at 8 am and she called me back within 15 minutes with results!!! They are AWESOME!
The office staff helped me gather needed info for approval and submitted it themselves. The only negative thing I could say is that I only saw Dr. Gorospe for the initial consult and one follow up in the hospital, but I was confident enough with his assistants that it was fine for me.

Well Dr Gorospe was the third surgeon I had seen, as soon as I found out who he was, and how many people I know who have used him, I knew he was the best choice. Then I met him and was assured by meeting him he was the Doc I wanted for my surgery. Not only is Dr G. & Dr Kirk the best but their staff has been just awesome, especially Crystal I think I bugged her 3 or 4 times a week with stupid questions. I think anyone who is seeking WLS should definately use
Dr G & Dr Kirk, they together make everything about the pre-op, surgery and post-op go as smooth as possible. They also make sure you realize this is lifelong
change and not just an easyway out, as many of my family members have put it. I think the only problem I did ever run in to is that the hospital has student nurses working along with the rest of the nursing staff and some of these young girls were having a problem working with fat sick people, but that was the hospital not the Docs. The Dr's also try to make sure you are as comfortable as possible throughout the surgery and hospital stay, and have you on a schedule for visits to make sure everything goes great, they also have a great support group that meets every month and has funtions all year with their patients that they are very active with.
I think the two Docs combined are the best you can find, just remember Dr Kirk is the sweet funny one, and Dr G is the serious to the point one.

Very compassionate and well in touch with how someone who is morbidly obese is treated by society as well as doctors themselves.

My impression did not change.

Office staff is very helpful.

Very task oriented so as not to spend a lot of time bedside, but if you ask a question he would sit down and make sure you understand.

Thinks aftercare is very important.

They do have an aftercare program.

He does go over the risks of surgery on the consultation as well as right before you actually have the surgery to make sure you are informed.

I would rate him as excellent and highly recommend him to others wanting the surgery. His mortality rate is 1% and has done over 4,700 surgery's.
I think surgical competence is better.
