Michael Sofronski Bariatric Surgeon D.O.
I was very pleased with Dr.Sofronski and his staff they where very helpfull before and after my surgery. He was always there when I needed him or his staff they could be called day or night if needed. They have the best support group and after care is fantastic even though I have moved out of the area they still care about how I am doing. I give Dr.Sofronski the highest score that could ever be given 100% he is the best in my book. He is very competant surgically and best bed side manner ever.

My first impression of Dr. Sofronski....I thought he was very harsh. To be honest, I didn't care for him at all.He hurt my feelings and when I left I was almost in tears and thought "this surgery is not for me, I can do this on my own". A few months past and instead of loosing any weight I gained a few pounds. I then decided to go back to Dr. S and that I could deal with him during my insurance required 6 months supervised diet, I'd get through the surgery and after the surgery I'd be loosing so he wouldn't be so harsh. When I went back in August he seemed much more understanding, caring, etc. I have to say my opinion of him has changed 110% since that first visit a year ago. I think he really, truly cares about his patients and wants what is best for them in the long run. The staff is wonderful and he has an excellent after care program. From what I've heard of other programs, I'd say he's the best around. He has a support group set up that meets every week at least once and sometimes twice a week. He was very thorough about explaining the surgery and the fact that this is not an east fix, but a lifestyle change. I really think I've made the right decision about him as a surgeon and can't imagine anyone else doing this surgery for me. I feel very comfortable that he will be able to help me with this for a very long time and answer any questions that may come up years from now.

dr sofronski is the answer to all my concerns and prayers so far.he and his staff have been wonderful to deal with.he keeps up with your status, has called me at work to see how i'm doing(still pre-op) and seems to have genuine concern for all his patients.
i have no complaints.......the aftercare program is expensive and extensive...still you are in charge of your end result.they have personal trainer, nutritionist, large support network many weekly meetings, etc.he has addressed all risks, and all his patients get an IVC filter implant to catch clots.YOU MUST STOP SMOKING.he is very
strict about this.i like him alot.
4/6/04- I still have the same reviews for
Dr.Sofronski and his team. All caring and
compassionate people who want you to succeed
in your weight loss efforts. They follow-up
and watch out for your best interest always.Would'nt change anything about that
group at all.(unless I could bring it closer to home;I drive 4.5 hours one way to see them and go to support group. Brenda P.
My first impression of Dr. Sofronski was that he really cares for his patients and that he really knows what he is doing. So far my impression of him has not changed. His office staff is very professional and his coordinator, Rosie is extremely pleasant and friendly. If I have to pick something about him that I don't like, it would be sort of a negative positive. He is extremely concerned about one's diet and requires that you keep a detailed diet journal. I think he has looked too closely at my present eating habits without taking into consideration that I know how to eat healthy but just ran into insurmountable road blocks and fell off of the "healthy eating wagon." Dr. Sofronski considers his patients as family members once he decides to take you on as a patient, he strongly emphasizes aftercare and has a mandatory aftercare program at a cost of $2500 which is not coverable by insurance. This may be an issue for some. He informed me of all the risks and made sure I understood all the aspects of my surgery. I would recommend Dr. Sofronski to anyone in the Delmarva or Tri-state area. I have the utmost respect for he and his staff and am truly thankful to have had him perform my surgery. Dr. S went above and beyond the call of duty and checked on me frequently during my hospital stay; often three times a day. His surgical nurse Nicki (sp?) was also very warm and has a calming and soothing personality. It may sound that this rating/review is too good to be true, on the contrary, it is indeed true. I know that everything and everybody has its pros and cons but as far as Dr. S and his staff and practice are conscerned I do not have anything negative to say. On a scale of 1 - 10 my rating is 50! His number is 410-341-6180 for anyone who is interested in consulting with him. For anyone who may be interested in contacting Dr. Sofronski's office, I thought I would let you know that at the time of this posting, 8/2003, Dr. S only performs OPEN RNY. He does not perform Lap Rny or the Lap Band as is listed under his name when you click on it.
Dr, Sofronski and his entire staff are WONDERFUL!! Everyone makes you feel like you are the only patient they have. You are always greeted w/a smile and a bottle of water the minute you walk through the door and I have never had to wait over 10 min. to be seen. Any concerns or questions are thoroughly addressed by Dr. "S" and he offers a wealth of genuine support. I have learned a great deal from him as well from the local support group meetings he requires all patients to attend. I would highly recommend Dr. Sofronski to anyone seeking help with weight loss.
I initially started my journey by having an appointment with Dr. Vanguri. While I had nothing negative to say I didnt really have anything positive to say either about my visit. It was a fairly standard doctors office visit. I then become disheartned however by what seemed to be the lack of customer care that I guess is a byproduct of being so overwhelmed with patients. Every correspondence I received from Dr. Vanguri's office had a note attached to it stating do not call the office due to the overwhelming number of calls they receive in a day. I frankly feel that if I want to call my doctors office I should be able to do so at any given time. So I began my search again for a new surgeon and I stumbled upon Dr Sofronski and the Delmarva Bariatric Center. I am not the testimonial type of person, however I cannot say enough positive things about Dr Sofronski and his entire staff. They are caring, attentive etc. I enjoy that when I call I can actually speak to a person and that if I have to leave a message someone returns my call in a very timely fashion. Every single contact I have had with his office whether over the phone or in person has been phenominal as far as customer service. Dr. Sofronski seems very committed to ensuring the success of a bariatric patient. He has a very rigorous aftercare program that if you are not willing to commit to he will not perform your surgery. He was informative about the procedure, risks etc. Rosie his office administrator is fantastic and so helpful and his entire office support team have been outstanding. I have yet to have had a negative experience with his office. I would highly recommend Dr. Sofronski to anyone who is considering this surgery.
I get to meet my surgeon on April 25th. I was told by his co-ordinator for the center to prepare to be there for the day for the initial consultation and processing for the surgery date. I don't know anyting except that I am happy that I got a date for the consult so soon. I can't wait to meet him and be on my way towards a healthier life.
April 29, 2003....I met with my surgeon on April 8th, due to someone else canceling their appointment for that day. He was very compassionate and made me feel like a real person with real emotions and feelings. He did not take anything I spoke about lightly and he did say that he was very impressed with my story and would be glad to assist me in my new journey. He and his Nurse (program Co-ordinator) explaine dthe entire procedure to me and my husband. Explained the aftercare and the importance of the aftercare program which is mandatory in His Bariatric program. You can not have the surgery unless you commit yourself to the program for twelve months after the procedure is completed. We did get to see teh informative video and I tell you my husband was so supportive and impressed with this entire prograam. he is not overweight and has never had a problem or sickness in his life. I was concerned that he would not understand this or me, but because of the doctor's bedside manner and his genuine concern, my husband came away well informed and newly educated regarding obese persons and dieting. I was afraid of being turned down by the doctor. He explained so much to me in those few hours. So much that I had never learned before. His entire staff was very professional and vdery informative as well. They all treated me as a person and not as a fatty. I did not feel like I was under anyones microscope or any kind of judgemental attitude against obese patients as I have often been confronted with in my own PCP's office and the hospitals. I am happy I chose to come to this program. I did not feel like i was being run through a meat market approach like so many other programs or doctors that I took the time to learn about.I was accepted as a patient and scheduled to return on the 24th of April for the final consult. By then he would have all the medical information from my PCP and pharmacuetical records as well. I returned on the 24th and needless to say, I was disappointed when I arrived. The Doctor had to leave for emergency surgery at the hospital with another Bariatric patient. But my husband and I were staying overnight in a local hotel and I was given a work in appointment for the next morning. Goodie, I left with my spirits intact. That night my husband and I went to my first support group meeting in Salisbury, MD. (were my doctor is located). It was awesome to see and hear the experiences of other people going through this same journey. There was even a nutritionist and an Exercise (personal) trainer there to give pointersand comments. Answer lots of questions about things I was always afraid to ask. I can already feel my confidence building in me. Thank God for this tool of WLS. Made my appointment the next morning and it was GOOD! I got my surgery date for June 2, 2003. I am estactic. I go back on May 8th for some PRE-OP stuff and another support meeting. I am EXCITED!!! Please pray for me, that I will remain confident and strong. These are my own personal experiences and opinions for now. i am sure I have made the right decision for me and the right choice of a doctor for myself.
