Had my 1st consult today Jeanie was wonderful,
as were the girls in the front office.Jeannie brought in Dr Aslam for me to meet,
He seems very pleasent soft spoken ,
He talked "TO" me instead of "AT me, unlike most Dr's.
12/28/00
My husband went with me to see Dr Aslam, And asked the DR a few questions,
I am so glad that my Husband is so supportive and he also thinks Dr Aslam, is the
right Dr to do my surgery..
I have my Pre-op with Dr Aslam 04/10/01, We will decide on what surgery then..

My first impression of doc Aslam was he was very quiet and very skinny.I've only met him once so far he seems nice and very informed,I meet him again on July 31, for physical and History. His staff is very nice expecially Jeannie, She knows her stuff..I met with the doc for my history and physical he is still quiet(lol) He's a very smart man and tells it how it is and i like that..

Had to change doctors due to my insurance. My other choices were "out of the network".
Have been visiting the website but have not met anyone from the office yet. My appointment is June 19. SO FAR AWAY!!
I had an initial group meeting with 3 other people. Met doctor for the first time, he is very knowledgeable and aware of what the insurance companies dicate. Had all my consultations done when I met the doctor one-to-one. Said there was a 90% chance he could do the operation laparascopically. Told me to make a surgery date after I got insurance approval. When i called the insurance company and got verbal approval first thing I did was call the office. They said I had to have a hard copy of the approval letter. When I received that I called the office again and they hadn't received it so i faxed it then was told when the doctor reviews the chart and gets back to me of the type of operation you will get I can book it. I said but he already told me I was probably going to get the lap RNY. The nurse said after he reviews it and gives me the go ahead I will get back to you. I asked how long that would take and she said probably 2-3 days. Well another week went by and no date it took a correspondence with another friend to find out the doctor was out of town one week and the nurse was on vacation another week. 3 weeks after insurance approval I finally got my surgery date. 43 days to surgery Aug 31, 2001 pre-op work to be done on the 29th and meet with the doctor 8-14-2001 for a history & physical. I don't think they realize how important it is to get that date and how some people stress out until they do get it.
The nurses should be crossed train so if someone is on vacation someone else can do her job. I will let you know how his bed side manner is at a later time.
The overall program the doctor has is great. We have to attend support meetings. We need to have a mental health consulor in place for after surgery as well. Although this is a good idea I am dreading the expense of $50 per visit.
I started my web search in Jan 2001 although I have considered this operstion for awhile. It is finally all coming together.

He seems like a very through and professional man. He was alittle upset that I had not lost anything from May to my June appt. but I am sure he will be happier with me next time. He makes sure to discuss the risks and really tries to get you in the right state of mind for this surgery. His office staff (especially Jeanine) has been very nice.

They defintly have a great need for some serious cross training though. I had to wait two weeks for the paperwork to go in for approval (because someone was on vacation/business leave) and another two weeks to get my date (another vacation) and hopefully I will have the date on friday. One person should not have the burden of doing one task. Plus it doesnt make it fair for those who are waiting.

My first Impression of Dr. Aslam was great! He was very kind and answered all my questions thoroughly.

Since I have only met him once, my impression has not changed.

Dr. Aslam's Staff seems very nice. I have only dealt with Jeanne, who is just fantastic, and the woman who does scheduling; she seems very nice too.

Dr. Aslam and his staff are wonderful. They have been kind, caring, and patient throughout this entire process. Jeanne was my first in person contact within the office. I can't say enough good things about her...she was a rock for me. Dr. Aslam has a great "bedside" manor. He answered all my many questions openly and honestly...even the sometimes scary stuff...without making me feel rushed. I have gotten to know the rest of the staff from dealing with my insurance and billing, test results, pre-op and now post-op questions. Aftercare is my primary focus right now, and Dr. Aslam, and his nurses Jeanne and Nancy have been there at each turn.
A new physician has now joined Dr. Aslam. His name is Dr. Ziadan (sorry if the spelling is incorrect) and I am certain he will prove to be just as admirable as Dr. Aslam. I was fortunate to have him in the operating room during my surgery, and he came to see me each day with Dr. Aslam while I was in the hospital.
My overall experience has been A++ and I would highly recommend Dr. Aslam and his caring staff.

I met with Jeannie, Dr. Zydan, and Dr. Aslam in
a group meeting yesterday. The meeting was
informative and I appreciated meeting the
surgeons. I like Dr. Aslam's frank way of
answering questions and felt comfortable with
him. Dr. Aslam nor Jeannie attempted to
try and sugar coat the truth, the risk or the
benefits of the surgery. I felt as if they were
honest, open, and available for my questions.
I wish I had known when I scheduled my appt that
there was a whole packet of information to be filled out
before the initial eval, I would have finished
it at home and brought it to the appt to save
my time and theirs. I also would have loved
to have all the pretesting information from
his offic before the appt, I would have gone prepared with
all the testing completed. If I were to talk to other
patients who were to choose Dr. Aslam, I would tell
them to call or email Jeannie and get the pretesting
requirements ahead of time and schedule their
appts with the dietician,the respiratory
tech, the psychologist, etc. Other than that,
my experience was positive. I believe I have
made a good decision.
I have my second appt June 12th. The mid
screening appt. So I am looking forward to
that and getting all my pre op testing done.
I will begin today to get all my appt's
scheduled. 1st step finished.
4/25/01 Met with the dietician today. Jill Young, she was
supportive and caring. I did not feel judged
or embarrased. Jill was easy to talk to, and
she seemed to have a good understanding of the
surgery. I planned a follow up appt to discuss
a food plan to help me lose the 10% of my
weight recommended prior to surgery.

4/27/01 I have my appt scheduled for my psych consult with Dr.
Borkum's office on May 22. Angela in Dr. Borkum's
office was pleasant and helpful. Ialso made my
appt for the resp tx on May 31st. So now
all my initial stuff is at least scheduled. The
remainder of the tasks on the list are done.
I have a mental health counselor in place for
now and after, I don't have gall bladder. So
now Ijust wait for my June 12th appt with Dr.
Aslam. I'm getting excited and more scared.

5/23/01 Met with the psychologist yesterday.
took the MMPI, and talked with him for awhile.
I saw Dr. Borkum in Waterville, He was very nice,
supportive, and kind.

I have my midrange consult in a two more weeks,
June12th. The surgery is starting to feel real.
I am excited and still scared. I am down 7 lbs.
I have 20 more to lose before the 12th. I am doing
great. I think it's because I believe it is the
last time I will ever have to do this.

I have found Dr Aslam and his entire staff to be very competent, caring people who are very forth coming with information and who seem to have a genuine interest in assuring that this is a success. I had several post op complications and they were handled with a greaat deal of concern and understanding as well as medically appropriate. I have nothing but rave reviews and comments from my experience with Dr. Aslam and ahis entire program and staff.

I had my initial consulation today with Jeannie and I was so impressed. She is genuinely an advocate and Dr. Aslam was very sincere. They were very honest and only want what is best for the patients. I was very impressed with the extent of the screening process prior to the surgery and the support systems in place for after. I definitely feel that I made the right choice.
I liked the group consultation.
