Dr. Capps was very straightforward, professional, kind and patient. I had a lot of questions to ask and he answered them with patience and understanding. My husband, David had our consultation together so Dr. Capps made sure to address our concerns from a male/female perspective. He gave us the good, bad and ugly of what to expect and left the "door open" for questions down the road.

7/24/02 Met doctor for first time yesterday. His staff was very nice. I liked him. He was very straight forward. He told ne that the lap-band will not be a fast weight loss like by-pass would. But if I was commited he thought he could help me. He said I should be able to loose 100 lbs in the years time. He sent first letter to ins. for approval. If they say yes I go have some tests done-- upper G-I uck, ekg, chest x-ray. Then if all those come back ok I call and we set up a date. Could be as soon as 4-6 weeks !!! O.K. Here we go!!
Ok I have changed my mind. After doing some more resurch and talking to my family doctor I have decided to go to the BTC in Wylie Tx. I visited there on the 27th and met dr, Capps. He explainde everything to me and I was inpressed with the whole staff there. This place deals with only WLS and nothing else. They have their own hospital and I was very inpressed. Now I have to wait all over again for approval but I think I have made up my mind this time.
Well I had my surgery on 1/17/03 and if anything my opinion of Dr. Capps is better than ever !! He is a great, caring man. He came into pre-op and asked me a few questions and asked me if I had any. He explained what was going to go on for pre-op and in the OR He told me he would see me back in my room when it was all over. The second night when I had a small complecation I found him at my bedside at 3AM. I give him the highest possible ratting !!! And my scar !!! No staples to deal with just a very thin line covered with steri-strips. He is great !!!

My first impression of Dr. Capps was that he was very precise and to the point; no sugar coating whatsoever. At the same time, he made me feel at ease and was very compasionate.
As my experience with hime progressed, my impression just got better. The office staff was friendly and helpful, but there was some mix-up my selection of doctors, which I was able to rectify quickly.
I can't say I disliked anything about Dr. Capps.
Aftercare is extremely important to Dr. Capps (and to everyone at the Bariatric Treatment Center). I was supplied with more than enough information about what I needed to do after surgery. The frequent follow-ups will also help to keep me on track. You really can't go wrong if you follow the information given to you.
As I said earlier, Dr. Capps does not sugar-coat the surgery. Risks for clearly stated and he made sure I understood them.
I would say that I could not have made a better decision than to select Dr. Capps. He's just great and extremely knowledgeable.

The man has no flaws as far as WLS goes!! He's that good.

First impression of doctor was great, he was very informative towards the procedure. The staff was wonderful, very caring and professional. Was informed of a support group I could go to in my area and was explained the risks of the surgery as well as the aftercare I will need to have. I have only positive things to share, they did all the work I just had to do the lab work required, the rest was done by his staff.

I met Dr. Capps on December 12,2002 at BTC. He was very Professional. He doesn't try to force a decision on you. He emphasizes that the surgery is very serious and that you have to look at your situation carefully. He also wants you to follow the regimen he asks you to without deviation. He was wearing sandals with socks which I thought was sort of odd but, hey if he was comfortable I guess who am I do say anything. He has a no nonsense attitude. Bedside manner looks to be very professional. His aftercare program is very structured. He goes over the risk and benefits very well and allows plenty of time for you to ask questions. The BTC staff seem to be very good and professional and the office seemed to run very smoothly. My scheduled time to meet with him was 9:30 but I waited until 10:45 before he finally came in. I don't like to wait and that was really annoying but if he was as thorough with his other patients I can see why it took so long.

Went for consultation on 12/5. Was very impressed by Dr. Capps. He goes over every thing very thoroughly. He does not pressure one way or the other. He gladly answered any questions we had. I'm not excited about the test I have to take. (I realize their importance and neccessity, regardless, don't care for them.)

Dr' Capps clearly explained the surgery me. He told me the good ,the bad (risks),and the ugly (possible pain)

He is soft spoken and has very artistic hands. I felt comfortable with him.

The office staff has been very helpful, especially Melody and Kimberly.

The pre screens are very thorough and the follow up care I will know more about soon.

I learned about the risks at the preliminary meeting.

There is a support group that meets monthly and a nutritionist who helps before and after surgery.

My first impression of Dr. Capps is that he is very professional and knowledgable. He didn't try to persude me either way about making a decision. He said that it is a big decision and to think it through. That impressed me more than anything, that he seemed to care about me as a person. He explained every step throughly. He is an A+ doctor. I am very anxious to get the surgery behind me.
UPDATE (10/29/02): I am now home from surgery and wanted to add comments about Dr. Capps. In my opinion, he is the best choice for anyone considering this surgery. I have been so blessed to have had him perform my surgery. Surgery was on 10/25 and I had open RNY, of course the first 2 days were painful, but not unbareable and I owe that to God & his guiding Dr. Capps hands to perform the best surgery available. Dr. Capps has a wonderful bedside manner and doesn't leave any question unanswered. Thank you Dr. Capps for my new life!

My first impression of Dr. Capps was that he was kind, caring and that he wanted to be there and he wanted to help. He didn't treat me as other doctors have done in the past as if I didn't exist, my problems were all in my head and he actually treated me like a person; not a fat person. He didn't avoid eye contact like most doctors do and he looked as if he was comfortable to be around me. I haven't seen him since my initial consultation back in May but I have been working with his staff and they are excellent!! Dr. Capps was very straight forward, answered all my questions (about 30 of them!) and reassured me. I look forward to Dr. Capps doing my surgery and I know he was sent to me by God. I will update post-surgery!
POST-OP: Well, I really didn't see much of Dr. Capps during my stay. I'm sure he was around, but you know morphine does some wonderful amnesia tricks! I saw him 5 minutes before I went into surgery, there he seemed like he was on a mission but very kind. I saw him for about 10 minutes during which he looked at my incision. Very polite and informative. And then I saw him about 5 minutes on the day I was released to go home. That day was when I saw his true caring side. I hadn't had any pain medication in 5 hours and I was hurting bad and I was trying to walk it off in the halls and I could only get outside my door and I was crying and Dr. Capps came up to me and reassured me and said everything was going to be alright. My husband was with me and they talked about my medication. Thirty minutes later I was given two shots and a pain patch and he told my husband that he was NOT going to send me home in THAT kind of pain. The whole time he was polite and reassuring, very informative and very medical. You could tell he wasn't horsing around and neither should I. I got a fatherly impression from him. When I saw him for two week follow up, he was still just as friendly and informative and was willing to answer any questions. Overall, he's the best doctor I've EVER had.
