Post-Op:
I couldnt be more pleased with Dr. Capps and the care that I received from him and BTC. His bedside manner and follow-up care were exceptional. He truly cares about his patients and stresses the proper aftercare. I would highly recommend Dr. Capps to anyone contemplating WLS.

Pre-Op:
My first impression was that he wasn't the most personable, but was willing to explain the entire process and answer any questions. Overall, I am very comfortable with Dr. Capps and confident in his abilities.

The office staff at BTC is very friendly and helpful; however, there was a long delay between arriving at the office and actually getting to see Dr. Capps -- almost a two hour wait!

My first impression of Dr. Capps was fine. The experience at Bariatric Treatment Centers for my initial appointment was a good one. It took a long time and I had to wait for a while. But, since Dr. Capps is fairly new to the center, I don't think I'll have to wait too long to get a surgery date.

April, 2002. Dr. Capps did a good job on the surgery. He is very matter-of-fact about the pain and side effects ... not too sympathetic. Although I think he is VERY competent, I would have liked him to listen to my concerns and be a bit more empathetic.

Ist Impression of Dr Capps was that he seemed kind and he was very informative and spent a lot of time explaining the procedure and the risks involved. He asked me questions regarding my health history and what my expectations for the surgery were.He didn't want me thinking of it as a cure all .. but as a tool to help me have a healthy and better life...
The front lady at the front desk was not unkind but she was very busy answering phones and transferring calls etc .. and gave me a clipboard with papers to fill out.
Dr Capps was very thorough about the risks involved and i would say the office visit took about three hours... so he didn't leave anything uncovered.
I asked him about his training and why he chose to do this sort of surgery and he said that most other types of surgery are for sad reasons ie.. cancer and other catastrophic things .. (my simplified version .. he was more eloquent lol ) and that weight loss surgery is such a positive life
changing surgery ...that it is very gratifying to him to be in this specialized field of bariatric surgery...and when I asked if I could trust him with my life he assured me that I could :-) .. he and his nurse Shantay and the patient co ordinator Kim ( who has had this surgery and is doing great ) were all very compassionate and seemed totally non judgemental... a rarity!!
So Dr Capps seems like and excellent choice.. he is very cautious and ordered more tests than i would like to of had (ha ha) but i admire his thoroughness because ultimately it will help him to keep me alive thru surgery and on the other side do well in recovery!!!

I met with Dr. Capps on December 7, 2001
He was a nice man and very thorough in his explanation of RNY. My husband and I were impressed with BTC in Wylie, Texas.
I feel the office staff could have been more friendly (not so programmed)!
We were most impressed with Kimberely (the nutrionist) she shared her WLS with us. I don't have anything negative to report concerning Dr. Capps. Aftercare is extremely important according to Dr. Capps. He did address all risks involved with this surgery. I have not had surgery as of yet, but afterwards I will be glad to share my story. I feel that surgical competence and bedside manner are both great, therefore I'll keep you all informed!

Dr. Capps practices at Bariatric Treatment Centers in Wylie, Texas, which is basically a part of the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex. He is extremely thorough in his pre-op assessement of his patients. Although getting through all the pre-op tests can be frustrating, in the long run, he just wants to be sure that you're a good candidate for the surgery so you'll survive. He is a skilled surgeon, and I would strongly suggest anyone in the area who is comtemplating weight loss surgery to consult Dr. Capps or one of his colleagues at Bariatric Treatment Centers.

I first went to Dr. Capps on June 28,01. He was very nice and extremely informative. His
staff was nice and understanding and seemed
real motivated. He gave me a list of things
I would have to do before surgery. My list
was to have a sleep apnea study and colon
test and blood work to check my liver. It
took forever to get these test scheduled.
Over four weeks my insurance was approved
but the test were not. I felt like Dr. Capps
was overly cautious about the results of
these test. He made the sleep test be done
twice, and the colon test was a major test.
I started getting frustrated, but hung in
there. I felt as though he was just too
cautious. After the surgury he seemed real
cautious about when the cath and iv would be
removed, but it finally happened. But his post op care and overall view made up for all above. His bedside manner was very
caring and I believe that his cautious
manner helped with the speed of my
recovery. I would highly, highly recommend him for anybody. After all it was my health he was concerned about.

I met with Dr. Capps at the Bariatric Treatment Center on November 9, 2001. I felt very comfortable discussing WLS with Dr. Capps and his staff. I didn't find him condescending or patronizing, which I've experienced with other doctors. He is very down to earth and personable. He took his time discussing the procedure and the outcome with me. He was open and responsive to my questions and concerns.

The rest of the staff at the Wylie BTC were very approachable, courteous, and made me feel at ease.

My only suggestion is that they provide a table with chairs for completing all the paperwork that's required.

My overall decision to pursue the BTC is because this is what they specialize in. I feel like they'll be better equipped facility-wise and mentally to accommodate me.

My first impression was that I expected him to be younger. I don't know why. Maybe because he was new to the BTC. I was relieved that he wasn't a baby. As I spoke with him more and more, I became more comfortable with his newness to the procedure.

The one thing that he said that put me more at ease than anything else so far is that... this surgery has been being done for 100 years - just not for the treatment of obesity. Duh!! Why didn't I think of that? I knew that people have had stomach surgery for cancer, ulcers, etc. I don't know why it didn't dawn on me that this was really no different from someone who doesn't have a choice.

The office staff was fine, except for the front desk. She was pretty vague on things-like most people already know what to do. She was also a little abrupt, like I asked her if they usually put out coffee on the table that had the creamer and sweet 'n low on it. She said, "yes" then she walked away. The entire two hours that I was there, they never put out coffee. Hmmmmm?

I can't say that there was anything that I didn't like about Dr. Capps so far.

There was not a lot of emphasis on aftercare except to say that it was very important and that I would get into all of that later.

The risks were carefully explained, but I never got the feeling that they were a real concern. Dr. Capps seemed to imply that he rarely ran into complications. The one risk that he did stress was blood clots. He told me that it was very important that I move so that blood clots did not occur or I could die.

Overall I would rate Dr. Capps completely competent and I am anxious to get going.

He seems very personable and I think his bedside manner will be friendly and pleasant.

I really liked Dr Capps. He was very informative and answered a lot of my questions. I had left my question list at home but when I got home to it I realized he covered just about everything. He didn't really go into aftercare, but I figure I can ask him about it later. His office staff was very sweet and non-threatening which was a pleasant change.
