He seems to be a very nice guy. my son went with me to the appt, he is 18 and also morbidly obese and Dr Cywes was awesome with him. Before we left, my son signed up too.

I will say that although at times he can seem stern and almost like he is against you - he really has your best interest at stake and is with you the whole way through your journey. His staff is wonderful - and I can't say too much more about it. Even his partner Dr. B is awesome and I wouldn't trade them for any other doctor I know that does this surgery.

I highly recommend Dr.Cywes. He has been nothing but spectacular since I was banded. I have nothing negative to say about him and the people at his office. They really care about you. Dr.Cywes and staff are really there for you when you need that boost of help. I think there are only a few people that touch your life and for me thats Dr.Cywes. I think the band is the tool but you need people that will help guide you on this journey. For my that has been been my family, Dr.Cywes and the GREAT people at his office. I got my band Jan 15th 09 and I have already lost 85lbs.

I really respect and admire my brilliant surgeon. I hope and pray that he won't have to come to a point where he has too many patients and can't do my fills anymore. I credit a good part of my success so far to wanting to prove to him that I take this seriously and I really look forward to my visits. I also don't want anyone else doing my fills. I NEED him to do my fills. I am a big wimp, but he knows what he is doing and has my trust and confidence. I am soooo glad I selected him. I truly believe that he is the best, not just in Jacksonville but in the United States! He has so much experience and is very intelligent. He really understands the psychology behind carbohydrate addiction. I can't reccomend him enough. At first I was going to go with Dr. Webb, and I'm sure he is a good surgeon, but he does more bypass surgeries than band surgeries. I am so glad that I went to Dr. C's seminar and made the switch!! Lap Band surgery is the only bariatric surgery he does. He has done over 1000 and has been very successful. The lap band is a great tool, but if not placed properly it isn't going to work properly. Choosing the right surgeon is the most important step you can take to ensure your best shot at success. He has free seminars at Memorial Hospital. You owe it to yourself to attend one of the seminars. He also has free monthly support group meetings at his office and these meetings are great and really help with the process. I think his staff is awesome and has always been helpful and nice. Yes, there is often a wait to see the doc, but it is worth the wait. Jodi and Dana both work for him and one of them always facilitate the support group meetings. I am greatful for their dedication to helping me and the other patients. The folks at the meetings are great too. It is nice to be able to support one another and share tips, advice and even clothes!! Did I mention that I love Dr. Cywes? I have been praying for a miracle my whole life, and Dr. Cywes is my miracle!! rn

I am a person who values competence more than beside manner. If my surgeon has a nice bedside manner then it is icing on the cake, but if I don't feel confident in him as a surgeon then I won't be letting him/her cut on me! Dr. Cywes is very nice but he is also very matter of fact and serious about his job. He wants you to be serious about it as well and is good at motivating you to be a partner in your weight loss journey. He has done over 1,000 lap band surgeries. After surgery he gives you his cell phone number and encourages you to use it (how many physicians do that!). His staff is very nice for as busy and hectic as the office is. They have so many patients right now and are really swamped and seem to do as good a job as they can right now in tight quarters. I went for my pre-op appt this past week and had to wait two hours before they called me in. I feel they could do a little better in the area of scheduling (i.e. schedule two small groups at different times rather than one large group at one time and then calling in two groups at a time.) They are going to be moving to a larger facility in the next few months and are hiring more people. Hopefully that will help things considerably. I feel like with Dr. Cywes as my surgeon I can be extremely successful in my weight loss journey as long as I work with him and follow his instructions to the letter. I am two weeks out from my surgery so I will probably update this after my surgery to include my surgery experience and post-op care. But so far so good.

I was very nervous. After meeting him I knew he he truley care about his patients. The staff are all wonderful. When Dr. C says something he means it, even if it's not what your wanting to hear.Everthing he and his staff says is for your best interest, before and the after care.I know that I picked the right(best) surgeon for myself. I highly recommend Dr.Cywes for anyone who is thinking about this new life changing journey!!

Terrific Surgeon! Recommend highly.rnCare since surgery has been fantastic.rnBest group in Jacksonville, Florida.

Amazing bedside manner, very experienced and compassionate. Spent hours with us initially to relay surgical info himself.rnCan be sarcastic. Sometimes refuses to give out weight loss pins. Upsets me.rnOffice staff was initially rude at times and very slow in relaying information in my opinion, now much improved.rnN/A.rnBe prepared to wait. Dr. Cywes spends a lot of time with each patient which is why I am willing to wait. He will spend the same amount of time with me. Individualized care is very important to Dr. Cywes.rnAftercare in the way of office visits, follow ups and fills is strongly emphasized. Very important to him. However, support group is only once a month.rnVery open about risks.rnRating: Dr. Cywes- *****, Office staff and wait time- ***.rnBoth are great, I would be willing to put up with a bad bedside manner with an amazing surgeon. Would prefer both in one person.

my first visit with Dr. Cywes ws very good. He let me know up front what to expect from him and how important is was for me to trust his experience and ability to be to take care of me and my needs. I will tell anybody to trust Dr. Cywes with your surgery.
