Dr. Cywes is one of the most caring doctors I've ever met. He takes his time to get to know you as a person not just another patient. I hate going to the doctor because I always feel rushed and like they dont care, but Dr. Cywes never made me feel rushed and took as much time as needed to answer any and all questions I had. When he talks, you can hear his excitment for what he does. He isnt in it for the money, he is truely in it to help you! I feel blessed that I have found such a wonderful surgen.

Dr. Cywes is great. He takes his time with each patient and goes over any questions you have. I wish everyone could have him as a Doctor. The Doctor and his staff are kind and caring people, you feel like a person and not a number. So much attention goes into each patient. If you ever get the pleasure of meeting them all you would know what I am talking about.

My first impression was how smart and personable he was. I went up to him at the inservice for pre-ops because I really wanted to get to know him better.

I respect his skill, compassion, intelligence, and bedside manner more each time I see him.

Office staff is great. There are more of them as the practice grows. If you have a problem, they fit you in no matter how busy they are. And they return phone calls right away.

He sees right through me.

This Dr and office cares about you, and is committed to you.

Aftercare is weekly for a month, then every 2 weeks, then monthly, and any time you have a problem. You have to beg to come less often.

There is one office visit totally about risks of surgery.

20 on a scale of 0-10. HE IS THE TOTAL PACKAGE!!!!

My first impression of Dr. Robert Cywes?

I thought...wow, what a tall, handsome man. Then as I listened to him speak, I was impressed that he wasn't just giving a sales pitch. He knew that there was hope out there for me and he just gave me the information that I needed to help me make my decision. I liked that he didn't care whether I chose him to do my surgery or not, but that he hoped I would choose someone that specialized in laproscopic surgery, not someone that had to learn the skill just to do the lap-band procedure. I left the seminar feeling empowered by the information I'd gotten. Since having my surgery done by him, I have been very pleased. I had a slight weight gain and was very surprised (and relieved) that he didn't belittle me about it, but instead, encouraged me to get back on track.

As for his office staff?

I was really impressed that his very first lap-band patient now works for him. She didn't work for him when she had her surgery. To me, that spoke volumes. It was really great to know that there is someone in the office that actually does know how I feel. She has been there. All the other staff that I've had contact with have been very nice too. Always friendly and willing to answer any questions they can. However, know that when you call his office, you probably won't get to talk to anyone immediately, but if you leave a message, they will get back to you as soon as possible. I know for a fact that some office staff stay very late returning calls well after hours.

What do I like least about him?

That his popularity is growing so much. This will probably cause him to start limiting his time with each patient. Other than that, I think he's great!

Future patients should know that when you come to his office for an appointment, be prepared to wait a while. He is very busy, but never rushed. He takes his time with each patient. So when you get your turn, he won't rush you through, he will take his time and answer any question you have.

Aftercare is very important with Dr. Cywes. You can expect to see him weekly for at least the first 6 weeks. Then he may let you get by with once every 2 weeks. From what I've experienced and learned from others, is that if the individual needs an agressive fill, he'll do it. On the other hand though, if you are doing well without his needing to be agressive, then he will take things a little slower. After all, the band is just a tool, not an easy fix. You still need to do some of the work yourself. His office offers a weightloss consultant and nutritionist if you should need either.

Risks of surgery...

He goes over this with you in one of your initial 3 visits with him. I liked the 3 visits rule that he has. There is a lot of information coming at you and sometimes it's a bit overwhelming. By having the 3 visits with him, it gives you time to absorb the information and to consider things, to think of questions you want to ask. I also liked that he makes you view EMMI. That is very informative and it's great to share with your loved ones. It allows them to get a better understanding of the procedure.

How would I rate Dr. Cywes overall?

AB-SO-LUTE-LY FAN-TAS-TIC!!!!!! Let me say that I had never been in the hospital before, in fact, had never even had an IV until I started this journey. I would not hesitate to have another procedure done by Dr. Cywes and I highly recommend him to anyone that is looking to have the lap-band done. The man knows what he is doing inside the human body.

Both his surgical competence and his bedside manner are wonderful. I am so glad that I just happened across him. Had I met some other doctor first, I probably would not have had the surgery done.

Thank you Dr. Cywes!!!!

I was very pleased with Dr. Cywes. I am very pleased with my results thus far. My surgery was 10/05/05. The only complaint I have is that his office is very very busy and its hard to make appointments and there is a long wait on post - op weigh in visits.

Dr. Cywes was very nice, courteous and professional and I feel he did an awesome job on my surgery. I can't thank him enough.

First impression say a lot about a person. Dr. Cywes has a calming voice and a pleasant demenor. I have two roles with Dr. Cywes. I was first a patient and now I am the Program Coordinator for his practice. I had my surgery 06/10/04 and was employed by him 12/20/04. Both as a patient and employee I have not seen him change. He is the same positive person he was when I first met him. His office staff are knowledgeable and pleasant and I'm not saying that because I work for him. Future patients should know that Dr. Cywes really cares about them and their success. They need to be ready for a doctor that will really be a part of their life. His aftercare program is what makes his patients, practice and myself successful in the weight loss game. The aftercare is extremely important because the adjustments are an important part of the band and with the education that is continously provided to you after you have your surgery is a tremendous benefit to keep you from developing any complications. The program is structured with a therapist, nutritionist, exercise physiologist, Dr. Cywes, myself and the involvement of your primary care doctor. What more could you ask for? Dr. Cywes offers seminars that are strictly educational events. He covers ALL aspects of the surgery/lap-band and assures that all of your questions have been answered. Dr. Cywes is a terrific person. He has over 16 years of experience performing laproscopic surgery. He is also a pediatric and general surgeon specializing with the minimal invasive approach. I rate his overall program, practice, and him as a 10+! In this final question...I believe that both surgical competence and the bedside manner are important. The surgical competence is important because if he came across a hernia or some other unexpected complication he already possess the technique in order to correct that problem and continue with the lap-band procedure. The bedside manner is important because we don't always have good days, meaning because we are human and we have moody days. With Dr. Cywes: it doesn't really matter if you feel like smiling or not. He always has a great way about him to brighten up your day. I have nothing negative to say about Dr. Cywes. He has been true to me.

Dr. Cywes is a wonderful, caring surgeon who wants to make sure that you fully understand what is going to happen. Both physically, mentally and emotionally. His first priority is for your health. I have felt like I was at home and treated like family by Dr. Cywes and his wonderful staff.

I would recommend Dr. Cywes and his staff to anyone researching the lap band procedure. They are all dedicated and willing to go the extra mile to help you achieve your goals.

I would rate Dr. Cywes an 11 on a scale of 1-10. The aftercare program includes everything that you need to succeed and is very much emphasized in your visits with them.

Dr. Cywes is wonderful. He is a very caring and compassionate physician. He takes time with his patients, answers all of your questions and really makes you feel comfortable. He is also very attentive and interested in how you are feeling, he never gives you the impression that you are just "another patient" to him. He also never makes you feel "rushed" he focuses on you & only you when he is speaking with you, which is rare these days. His office staff is great too and very supportive and caring as well. He is VERY big on aftercare. He stresses upon you from day one the importance of follow-ups and how this will be a life-long journey with him & his staff. He also has a very comprehensive approach which includes not only medical follow-ups but nutritional counseling, exercise, support group etc. My surgery went very smoothly, he did thoroughly address all of the risks/complications with me beforehand. I did have a problem with swelling and restriction but he was on top of it & had me come in for an upper GI and removed some saline from the band to give me relief. I believe that everyone's body reacts differently after surgery & I probably had more swelling than most. I would definitely say his surgical competence and bedside manner are both wonderful. He is very professional but also very involved with his patients and very concerned about their well-being. I highly recommend him to anyone considering lapband surgery.
