Robert Liem Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.

DR.LIEM WAS GREAT FROM THE FIRST TIME I SAW HIM.HE ALWAYS CARED ABOUT ME HE MADE ME FEEL THAT I WAS SPECIAL.HIS OFFICE STAFF(MARIA,ELIZABETH & MRS.LIEM) WERE AWESOME.
IT WAS NOTHING THAT I LIKED LEAST ABOUT DR.LIEM HE IS JUST A GREAT DOC.FUTURE PATIENTS SHOULD KNOW DR.LIEM WILL PUT ALL OF HIS PATIENTS FIRST NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE.HIS BEDSIDE MANNER IS TOTALLY AWESOME.HE ENCOURAGE YOU TO ATTEND GROUP MEETINGS.HE TOLD ME RIGHT UP FRONT ABOUT THE RISKS.I RATE DR.LIEM AS THE BEST GASTRIC BYPASS SURGEON IN THE WORLD.HIS SURGICAL COMPETENCE AND BEDSIDE MANNER ARE GREAT.

Dr. Liem is a quiet yet very competent surgeon who is proud of his past surgeries. I personally found him more creditable after seeing him on FOX news along with being in the Palm Beach Post. His office staff is extremely overwhelmed with phone calls - so patience pays. Don't be discouraged if his staff does not eminate warm and fuzzy feelings - remember they are extremely busy -but I have found that they have kindly answered any questions I had. I know they are implementing new procedures to deal with the on set of new patients. Remember there are hundreds like you making the same calls you are. I believe Dr. Liem has both, bedside manners and surgical competence and this is why I chose him.

My first impression of Dr. Liem was thank God his hands aren't huge (since he'd be doing the open procedure rather than laproscopic!! He seems very well versed on the surgery and has tons of experience. The office staff can be a bit frazzled and I feel they need more office help. I am due to see him on 9/23 for pre-op and I'm very excited!!!!! I'll keep you posted. Surgery is scheduled for 9/25.

My first impression of Dr Leim was that his presentation was like a sales presentation. That was a couple of years ago and there were about 10 people in the room. It really turned me off the way he answered medical questions like a sales pitch so I left and never thought of it again. Then in May someone mentioned another meeting. This time there were 200 people and although his pitch was similar, I had already made up my mind.
I had heard such great things about the type of surgeon he is, that I put aside the other "stuff". I knew I would be in good hands and I would just research my questions on my own.
His staff is very friendly. They are very busy with phone calls and although they must be terribly stressed, they still sound cheerful.
Dr Liem and his staff were not very forthcoming with what I felt was important information. I felt like I never knew what the next step was or what to expect. I found out what I needed to know by asking others who pretty much come out of the woodwork once you mention you're having the surgery. He does not emphasize aftercare
and it is not structured at all. I totally felt like I was on my own...but like I said, the actual surgery...I knew I was in good hands.

My first impression of Dr. Liem on May 8th was that he was sweet and quiet. He explained the surgery to me in great detail and showed me before and after pics of some of his patients. His staff was great. Maria his right hand lady is wonderful. I forgot to ask some questions while I was there and my mom keeps calling back to ask her stuff and she is always willing to answer them even though she's extermely busy. I feel I will be in great hands with Dr. Liem and Maria. He has been doing Bariatric Surgery since the 1980's and he is very qualified for the task at hand. He only does Open which scared me at first because I'm only 25 and I have never had any surgeries BUT after they both exlpained why I feel much more comfortable with the Open procedure. Right now I rate Dr.Liem and Maria a 10. I will let you know more post-op =)

The initial visit was quick and painless... I have been waiting for my insurance to approve me for the procedure.. they denied me at first, and I filed an appeal. This was back on 08.02.02.. Now, on 09.07.02, I have been told the appeal was never received. I dont know if it the docrtors office's fault, but I know that everything is at a standstill.

I went to Dr Liems office on July 16th. He was not in but I had a consult with Maria his Nurse. All went well my paper work went to the insurance company on the 26th and I was approved on the August 6th. My surgery is scheduled for January 7th due to prior commitments at work. I also have started a support group for DR. LIEMS patients thru yahoo group at www.yahoogroups.com. and the name of the group is WLSwithDrLiem if you would like to join. This group is no way affiliated with his office. Just people sharing their support and questions.

note Dr. Liem preformed this surgery on both me and my husband, two weeks apart.
