Thomas Stellato Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

My first impression of Dr. Stellato was that of a man who is straight forward and expects his patients to comply with what is required in order to have a surgery free from complications. I was told that I had to stop smoking immediately! That my weight could not increase and that if I followed his instructions things would work in my favor. He said that he really wanted to help me get healthy. I admired him and was not intimidated. I believe it's important to be honest with him.

My first impression of Dr. Stellato was mean and very scary.
It changed immediately......he is very carring and compassionate, and knows his job very well.
The office staff are compassionate also and are there for you from start to finish.
There is nothing that I do not like about my surgeon.
I think they all should know to come prepared with all the info asked of them and he will do his part as promised.
He makes it known that it is very important to keep all appts....to monitor weight loss and for lab work to make sure you are not deficient in any areas.
There is a group support meeting held at UH.
Everything was layed out on the table....the good, the bad, and the ugly. They definitely want you to know what type of choice you are making and that it is a life change that does not start off very easy.
I would rate my surgeon as EXCELLENT!!!!
They are both great!!!

Dr. Stellato is a great guy! He really cares about his patients and doesn't sugar coat the hard facts. He emphasizes preparing for surgery by attending support groups, becoming educated on the facts of WLS, and not gaining any more weight prior to surgery. University Hospitals has a very structured aftercare program which he requires all patients to strictly adhere to. I haven't yet had surgery, but I feel I'm in the best hands I can be in- God's and Dr. Stellato's.

I liked Dr Stellato righ away. He has a great bedside manner, shows a sincere interest in you and makes you feel like he is there for you from start to finish.
I have grown more fond of him over this year..His staff is exceptional. Friendly, curteous and professional. I only have positive things to say about Dr Stellato. Future patients should know he is an outstanding surgeon. After care is stressed, they sponsor a monthly support group meeting at the hospital. He went over every possible risk including death. Ten being the best, a tweleve!!!!

I am 50 years old and have been to many doctor's in my life, he is by far my favorite. He's an excellent surgeon and an outstanding human being. I would recommend him to anyone who had their heart set on this surgery. Cathy, Peggy, & Kristen are all very nice also. But is Cathy tells you to do something you better do it.

At first I was intimidated by him, b/c I heard that he was a no-nonscence physician.
He was strict about everything especially
before the surgery, but he is a excellent
surgeon, and doctor. He is the Best in the
field. His staff are very knowledgeable, and
very professional. They are on-call most of
the time. As I got to know Dr. Stellato, and his staff. I was very glad I was a patient.
They truly are the best, professionally!
I was in good hands. They really emphasize
following doing exactly what they tell you
to do from the educational manual that they
give you before you have the surgery. The
manual gives you info. what to do when, how, and how much. The Aftercare is very structured, and strict for the patient's own
safety. The Doctor, and staff were honest, and
straightfoward on everything, the risks in-
volved. I would rate my Doctor a 10+ or
Above average. His staff as well.
I think Surgical competence is very important to me, and Dr. Stellato is the best in his field, His personality is not
bad either, you just have to get to know him.

I first met Dr Stellato in February when I had my consult for surgery. He was very informative and straight to the point. His staff is great answering questions and concerns and keeping me informed on what is going on. I have been to 3 support groups now and have learned a great deal about the sugery and what is expected of me. I have tried very hard to keep my weightdown it is one of the mandatory things to do

I really like Dr. Stellato. He is straight forward and to the point but caring. His staff is just great, very helpful and willing to go the extra mile to get you going. He will tell you like it is, what he expects out of you before and after surgery and if you don't want to hold up your end there will be no surgery. But it's all good stuff he wants, for your health. He wants you to go to as many support groups as possible before surgery so you can get more imformed. He also wants to see you after surgery and keep track of all that's going on with you. He did explain the risks of the surgery and % of good and bad surgeries he's done, not many that came out bad.
He just seems like a very likable and knowledgeable Dr. and I am glad I have him.
I am very dissappointed with the drs. office staff and procedure. I was under the impression in the begining the drs. office would help me with an appeal letter if I was denied, well I was and now they say there is no more they can do for me(except charge me $400 for a visit). Maybe this doesn't happen to everyone and I certainly hope it doesn't.

I first met Dr. stellato on March 3rd of 2003. It was at a mandatory, monthly meeting that every surgery hopeful must attend. Although I had never seen him before, I knew exactly who he was from the moment I walked in the room. He is a very distinguished man, who has this great sense of knowledge coming from him although he has not spoken one word. It is very easy to tell that Dr. Stellato is a no-nonsense kind of guy. He is very open, and informative with all of his answers to questions, and he encourages everyone to study the NEGATIVE side effects to this surgery. He wants to ensure that you know this is not the cure all. It is the boost that so many of us need. Dr. Stellato has ensured to surround himself with knowledgable and helpful staff who are always willing to answer any questions you may have. I called my insurance comapny on a whim to check the status of my approval and was shocked to learn that I got approval the very next day that the information was submitted to them from Felicia. (I appreciate you Felicia!!) From there I spoke with one of the nurses who handle scheduling and to make a long story short, from my initial consult of March 12th, to now , I am already scheduled for surgery!! I will meet with Dr. Stellato twice more before surgery, and I'll be sure to post.
