very good, well informed, and very not God like
my impression only improved
I was in a specific program for this surgery and staff was set up to accomodate this situation
At this point I really cann't think of a negative
Appears to be very good in his field and very concerned with the patients
After care is very important and group meetings are necessary
required is back visits 2 wks,4wks,3 months, 6 months,1 yr and every year there after
Additionally there are open and closed group meetings
Risks were discussed and probably vary with individual risk patient already has
Very High rating
For something this life changing I think all are needed

My first impression of Dr. Stellato was that he was very strict and extremely informative and experienced with WLS. He seemed to be almost unapproachable because of how stern and direct he was. But overtime I feel that it was very important for him to have those traits because this is a very large and important step for a person to make and it should not be taken lightly.

Dr. Stellato's coordinator is wonderful her name is Cathleen Crouse. She is very approachable and knowledgable about what the patients are going through as far as some fears concerning the surgery. She will send a packet to your home that explains the surgery.

Future patients should know that
Dr. Stellato is very experienced and is the Head Surgeon at University Hospitals.

My surgeon was Dr. Thomas Stellato. From the first moment that my husband and I met him, we were very impressed. He explained everything to us of the procedure. There was no beating around the bush. He had been doing the Open for two years, and had an excellent success rate. He is very honest about everything. He made me feel comfortable. His right hand head nurse is Cathy Crouse. She was there with all of my appointments. Her knowledge of the whole operation is incredible. I am blessed to have found them. His office did all the leg work in getting my surgery apporved. I recieved my approval one week from the date of my first appointment with him. To anyone who is intersted in this surgery, I highly recomend Dr. Stellato. They have bi-monthly meetings for both post-op patients, to where we can go and discuss anything that happens to be on our minds. Right now they are getting a web site ready. They have bi-monthly for pre-op, and those looking for the information that will help them make right discion, if this will be their plan of action. Every meeting that I have been to, Dr. Stellato, and Cathy have been there. Impressive. He has always laid out the risks of surgery. At my first appointment, he told of one particular woman, and the complications that she had. He informs everyone of this, even to those who are at meetings to just see what this is all about. This is major surgery, there are complications that could happen. I respect him for his honesty. As for his surgical competence versus bedside manner, they were both great. Tom Stellato is a very caring man, and excellant surgeon. I am pleased to have had him help me start my new life.

Absoultely wonderful! I could not ask for a more caring and experieced person. He is Chief of Surgery at University Hospitals in Cleveland. I have had contact with him prior to seeing him for this surgery through my husband. He is very strict as to who he will accept. No exceptions to the rules. Has a wonderful RN who runs the program and offers bi-monthly support groups that he actually attends. Also has a wonderful nutritionist that works with everyone on an individual basis.

I finally was able to meet Dr. Stellato. He seems very frank, which I liked. He made it clear that this surgery is a change in life style not a solution to my problems. That alone made me feel better.

My first impression of Dr. Stellato was that of a complete professional. He got right to the point and right to the heart of things. His office staff (Specifically Carol and Kathy) are phenomenal, always willing to help. He offers a support group for his pts. The only bad thing about it is it is only every other month. However, he is looking to expand it. He has been very involved in my aftercare. I work at the hospital he works at, and everytime he bumps into me in the hall, he asks me how I feel, how am I doing, etc. That tells me quite a bit about his caring! He addressed all the possible risks and complications of the surgery (luckily I had none of them). He explained to me that this surgery was strictly palliative - meaning it was taking care of a symptom, not alleviating the disease. He provided psychological support for any of his patients that wanted it. He is truly a gifted surgeon, whom I would recommend beyond highly!

Dr Stellato is very business-like in his approach but is also very knowlegable. His staff and the staff at Cleveland University have been very nice and helpful. I personally felt they bent over backwards to help make things more convienent for me since I live out of town. Dr. Stellato does alot of screening...feels this a big help in the number of successful outcomes. He was also willing to do the surgery while I am on Medicare.....you have to sign a paper you will be responsible for payment if they deny but he will appeal.
