DR. Stellato is very knowledgable and to the point. I've been to my second visit with him yesterday and my surgery date is May 27. The office staff have been great. Anytime I've called, they have been patient and taken their time to answer any questions. The office is busy, but they will get back to you. They have been upfront about their program. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I would recommend them to anyone. I'm in school right now and they have accomodated my schedule. No complaints so far. There was some misunderstanding at yesterdays appointment, we left after the dietition spoke with us and apparently they weren't done with us. Please wait until they tell you that you are free to go. Expect to be there all day

I met Dr. Stellato on March 12 for my first consultation. He went over all my paperwork that I had completed from the packet I received at the support group. He is serious and straightforward. I feel confidant in him and his staff. Everyone was kind. I did have to wait two hours, but I wouldn't say that practice is exclusive to just his office. He did apologize for the wait. I had made the appointment in December so I was going to wait no matter what! I had all my paper work completed and all my medical tests comlete along with a letter from my doctor. They seemed to appreciate that.

actually my dr is dr. peter hallowell, dr stellato and hallowell works as a team. I had a very good first impression of them both, they were very honest and informative, but when it was time to sign the consent form, i had questions concerning the non blood issue due to the fact that i am a jehovah's witness, they were very nonchalant about the issue, it kind of made me uncomfortable, I wish they could've offered more options to me, even though this is not a bloody surgery, i wanted to to feel comfortable about my options, will see them again this week, will do follow-up questions, but overall i believe i'm in the best hands

first impression was very good.the office staff was nice. His bedside manor could use a little work he is a bit gruff. After care was not up to par i was not told alot of what i needed to know.He did tell me thee surgery risks.there was not a very sttructured after care program.i would rate him o.k.however i do think he is a very competent surgeon.he did a great job on my surgery. When my surgery was done the program was new and i assume the after care has improved now.Universary hospitals, which i went to was so wonderful to me.Overall i would recomend him as a surgeon. However i would discuss after care more thoroughly as i did not.

He was great. I must admit I was a little intimidated at first because he is so strict, but I dont believe I could have been in better hands.

I was very pleased with my first appointment with Dr. Stellato and his staff. Everyone was very supportive and I felt that I would be approved for the procedure with their help. Dr. Stellato is serious and knowledgeable. He talked openly about the risks of the surgery. I felt confident in him as a professional. I didn't get a good read on him as a person at first. After my surgery, he "lightened up" a good deal. He was caring when I was in the hospital and now, at my post op appointments, he is SO positive and encouraging. Aftercare is an important part of the program at University Hospitals. They have monthly support meetings specifically for post op patients, in addition to the open meetings for people learning about the procedure or scheduled for surgery. I think Dr. Stellato is an excellent surgeon. I wish that I could get him to laugh a little more now ;)- I think bedside manner and competence are equally important. I do appreciate that he is genuinely interested in how I am progressing. A special thanks to Peggy, one of Dr. Stellato's nurses. She has been so helpful and has made an effort to know me as a person. She has figured out just what I need in terms of support and has given that to me.

I am a kidney transplant patient at the University of Michigan Hospital, I also have been diagnosised with CHF, Type 2 Diabetes, severe sleep apnea among other things. I was turned down for the surgery at the BTC Center in Ypsilanti because I am a kidney transplant patient. There is no one that specializes in this surgery at U of M but one of the specialists at U of M referred me to Dr. Thomas Stellato at the University Hospitals of Cleveland. I met with Dr. Stellato in April of 2002 along with the coordinator Cathleen Crouse who is also Dr. Stellato's right hand. They are amazing, they talked to me and let me know what to expect and what they expected of me. They told me upfront about what I needed to do and what they would do for me. I had to start an exercise program and diet in between visits to the clinic. After my last clinic visit I was given a surgery date, July 9,2002. I was nervous and excited all at the same time. Dr. Stellato was very confident and professional, he also treated me with compassion and was very upfront about everything. I also had to attend a support group meeting before and after the surgery. I had been to other support group meetings so I thought I knew what to expect, I couldn't have been more wrong. When my wife and I went to the support group meeting in Cleveland, we were surprised to see Dr. Stellato and his staff, Cathleen Crouse, Peggy, Carol, and Melanie were all there to answer any questions anyone might have. They also had a short video explaining the proceedure. It was so informative and interesting. We arrived in Cleveland the night before my surgery and we spoke with Cathleen Crouse, she went over everything with us and asked us if we had any more questions. The next day I arrived at the hospital at 5:30 am and by 7:35 am I was being wheeled away to the operating room. The surgery was a long one and when Dr. Stellato came out my wife said he looked like he had been thru the world war II. He told my wife that it was no easy surgery but it went well and that I would recover well. Dr. Stellato monitored me closely while in recovery and continued to do so while I was in the hospital. Since I was a kidney transplant patient Dr. Stellato had the nephrologist monitor my kidney function as well. Dr. Stellato kept me in the hospital over the week end as a precaution and kept monitoring me all weekend. If I had it to do all over again I would not choose another surgeon other than Dr. Stellato, he is truely the greatest in his field. My wife refers to him as an angel and says were are blessed to have had him as my surgeon and I feel the same way. I take alot of medication for my kidney transplant and Dr. Stellato made sure before I left to go back to Michigan that my medications were on track as far as making sure I had them in liquid form and that I had enough medications to go home on while the pharmacy ordered them for me. I don't think they could have done anything any better. Dr. Stellato has a great bedside manner and addressed every question my wife and I had. He is truely a gifted surgeon and I have him to thank for making my quality of life better.
