Carilion Memorial Hospital
The only problem I had is that my IV was not in correctly and I complained about that my wrist and sight was hurting. Finally, they tried to draw blood from this and it didn't come out, meaning it wasn't working. They brought in a resource officer to get a vein within 20 min. b/c they couldn't get one and then fixed this. After that I became hydrated and the pain was less.
My overall impression of Roanoke Memorial is excellent. The nurses were kind and friendly, and the facility was modern and accomodating. The only problems I had were with my medications - was having trouble with morhphine, which they knew about for two days before they offered me an alternative. And the early morning parades of what I suppose were resident doctors coming in and looking at me. One was quite snippity, and when she pulled my surgical tape off my incision, my skin came with it - I was raw! She didn't seem to care in the least.
I only had problems with them 1 time. I called the nurses station to tell them that my stockings were turned off and that makes your legs very hot, sweaty and itchy. They kept saying that someone would be there as soon as possible, I called twice. No one ever came so I took them off (velcro)...during the same time, my IV ran out of solution, I called a 3rd time. They came right away when I said that my IV was out of solution. I told her about the stockings and she said I didn't have to put them back on. I went for a walk and as long as I walked I didn't need to have them on any longer.
the people during the day were wonderful, but the night people had a lot to be desired. They would respond when I hit the call bell in the middle of the night and say they would be rightthere, and then not show up. They left me sitting on the edge of the bed my first night out of surgery and told me they did not have time to help me walk around. I was very dissatisified. But that was the night people only. The day shift was wonderful.
