Cleveland Clinic (COE) - Westin Hospital
The pre-surgery, recovery, and ICU staff were WONDERFUL. Most of the regular staff were OK, but they wouldn't just check on you and you had to call a number instead of pushing a button to get them when they had the phone out of reach. The night time staff the first night were HORRIBLE and I asked for a different nurse to be assigned to me. I saw the night time nurses ONCE per night if I was lucky and they would have the nurses assistants come in to give me shots in the belly for them. I had to ask to be helped to bathe and it only happened once because the second nurse said the aide should do that but she was nowhere to be found. The nurses were not that helpful in the regular area and I felt like I was a bother. I also had a problem with the food delivery... they kept bringing the wrong order... I would order beef broth and hot decaf tea and red jello and I would get chicken broth, crystal lite and orange jello... this happened THREE TIMES. I would also reorder and not get it or get it wrong in parts again. Very frustrating when you don't have the strength to fight. I just wouldn't eat the broth. They did have wonderful volunteers that brought around magazines and books to read as well as snacks (which my mother got since I can't) They were nicer and more helpful than some of the nurses. My main day nurse was a 3.5 on a scale of 5 and was considerably nicer the second day. I didn't feel like I was getting answers or being taken care of. I didn't get the same instructions, cups as the other bypass patients did who had a different nurse, but the same doctor and surgery as me. That inconsistency by the nurses made me very nervous.
