Harper Hospital (Cori Center) Hospital

Before I had my surgery I read all the reviews and they weren't that bad. Actually from what I had read it sounded that things were getting better... SO NOT TRUE!!!! I had the worse nurse... Her name was Cathy, Blonde hair with big horse teeth. She has business being in with NON-COMATOSE patients.. She had no feelings, totally non-caring, Day one out of surgery I was trying to get out of bed and i was pulling on the trapeeze bar abovemy bed and she told me NOT to use it, that I need tolearn to get out of bed without it you won't have it when you get home and to just
SIT-UP!!! Total BITCH!!!! She was like that the whole time I had her and I think she needs to be moved to the
MORGUE!!!!
The other nurses were not very knowlegable, they were uncareing and unfriendly... I however, do have one nurse that I had the last night that I was their and she was a ANGEL sent straight from Heaven!!!! Her name was Septina.... She was awesome and helped me in anyway that she could, actually talked with me instead of AT me and made sure that I was comfortable. I totally love this woman for what she did and how much she helped me.
If you go to this hospital, make sure that you ask for her Septina, ahe also goes by just Tina... An Absolute Angel!!!!!

The entire staff were highly professional, skilled and compasionate and caring towards me and the other patients I have seen during my stay and while visiting others who are having syrgery. I have read many postings that were critical of the heat in the ward ... but they have two large air conditioning units that keep the area cool while I was there. I found out that the ward was designed for vascular surgery patients who needed warmer floors and roon to heal after their surgery .... the hospital is well aware that bartatric patients like us do better with cooler rooms and I feel they have tried to make the floor better for us. It is trus that the bathrooms on the 9th floor ward are not comfortable for patients who are very obese .... shower door too small to allow me to get in the shower .. and the toilet seat has handicap bars that are too narrow for my behind to squeeze between to sit .... the new bariatric wing on the second floor will be much better ... I did not have a bowel movement durung my stay ... so the bars on the seat did not affect me ... and I had a special presure dressing on one of my legs that kept me from taking a shower so the narrow door into the shower did not matter since I could only take a sponge bath anyway. I have the utmost respect for all of the nurses, aids, housekeeping and support staff ... and would highly recommend them for anyone considering their WLS at Harper.

I had only a few problems- not with the hospital but with the anesthecian, They lost my greenfield filter card in the pre op holding area.It just disappeared! Also they inserted my epidural too low and I couldnt move my legs and they also couldnt get my IV in right- geesh- no one else has problems with it.

Harper hospital was very pleasant, all the doctors & nurses were really friendly. All the doctors who were in the O.R. with me introduced theirself to me while I was going through pre-op (getting the epidural, IV's) They were really good to me, I ended up staying 2 days extra so the epidural was taken out too early and they were fast responsive for giving me pain medication when I needed it.
The only bad thing about the hospital was the floor I was on is really HOT!! I would recommend to anyone that has surgery there to take a fan with them!
I especially liked that the section of the hospital I was in, is all bariatric surgery patients, so the person in the bed next to me wasnt eating like chicken or steak while I was having salt free broth and sugar free jell-o!

My first night at the hospital was horrible. The night staff left MUCH to be desired. VERY VERY loud, laughing, running down the halls. Had approx. 6 different nurses that night, none of them were the same person. Blood was drawn at 4am. But after that shift was completed and the day shift came in things got 100% better. Never had a problem after that. Never saw those nurses again either! The staff was very caring after I got past the first night.
