Pennsylvania Hospital Hospital

A few of my nurses were lax, and not attentive. But never outright mean. It took an hour for them to meet some of my requests.
For my first meal, they tried to feed me a REGULAR clear liquid meal. Not a Gastric bypass clear liquid meal. Which is small and sugar free. If I hadn't been smart enough to know what they were giving me was NOT ok, I might have ended up right back in surgery!!

While I had lots of attention from doctors, some of the nursing staff left a lot to be desired. It took over 24 hours for me to get my personal items and when I asked, no one seemed to know what I was talking about. Docs wrote orders and it took hours for the nurses to carry them out. And as a nurse myself, I always tell a person simple things---like their room number when they first get to my floor. No one offered to help me ambulate--I did it myself. And my big complaint was that I did not get to my room after surgery until 10:30 PM and they had my pain meds set up on a IV where I had to push the button every 10 minutes to get meds. Seems to me that all would know that I would need pain meds through the night! Did not sleep one night during my 4 day stay.

I don't think the nursing staff cares about the patient's needs at all. During my entire stay I couldn't get someone to help me out of bed to walk and I never had compression boots for my entire stay which had me very upset because before surgery everyone says how important it is to use them. My clothes and suitcase that I came with weren't brought down to me until almost 24 hours after surgery after asking numerous times for them.
