Pennsylvania Hospital Hospital

I only had one outgoing and wonderful nurse and I only got her for one shift. The nurse's took a long time to repsond if you needed anything. They were just there for a paycheck. Towards the end of my 9 days there I was feeling homesick, lonely, and the pain just was more intense. I would cry. If the nurse seen me she would hollar at me to stop my crying like a baby.

The nursing situation at Pennsy is horrible. The reason they were unable to be responsive and quick to my requests is the nursing shortage. I know that's everywhere but it's so dangerous and they need to work to resolve the problems. It was obvious my nurses were running ragged and I felt sorry for them. However, my care was compromised and I didn't appreciate that. I know it's not their fault--it's an administrative problem and I feel its one that they need to fix as soon as possible.
Dr. Kirkland and the treatment I got in the surgical holding and recovery was great. However, once I got into my room the treatment went downhill--except for one very nice male nurse's aide who was an absolute doll. Oh, and my discharge nurse--she was great. I think the other nurses would have been great too if they had not been pulled in a thousand million directions.
I would recommend my surgeon a million times over but the hospital leaves a lot to be desired--I'd hesitate to recommend them without explaining that it would be worth it to know you have a top-notch, skilled and experienced surgeon performing your surgery. That to me is what counts anyway!

Overall I had a very good experience. I know many have said negative things, but all the nurses I came in contact with were very accommodating. More importantly they did have oversized gowns which was a big plus in my book. I would have preferred a private room but I suppose you can't have everything.
