Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Campus (COE) Hospital

Great beds. With this surgery you have to be up and walking shortly after surgery. That is hard to do with the pain and soreness of your body. Well the bed practically puts you on you feet. You can really tell this hospital and taken time and money to care for us. Absoluting amazing. Alomost didn't want to come home. The nursing staff is great. When I was ICU the nurses were upbeat, trying to make me laugh and do everything to make me comfortable. They were well trained and professional, but definately not stiffs.

There is one feature of this hospital that I LOVE. Dr. Blackstone has negotiated an arrangement with the hospital whereby each of her WLS patients are housed in a private VIP suite. The rooms are large with sitting areas, mini-refrigerators, and microwaves. It's more like a hotel room than a sterile hospital room. The larger WLS patients are provided with barriatric beds that assist them in sitting upright.
But the best thing is the nursing staff in this area. Many of them have asked to work on this floor. That makes a huge difference!! They are experienced in working with WLS patients and sensitive to our issues. One of the night nurses had a stomach stapling procedure almost 20 years ago, and will happily share her before and after pics if patients ask to see them. It's a great incentive when you're battling post-op pain and struggling to start that walking regimen!

I had a large private room with a sofa sleeper so my husband could stay with me. The nurses were all nice and they treated my husband well. There were a few mistakes, like bringing me the wrong kind of food post op. They didnt' have a wheel chair that I could fit into readily available. That was embarrassing, but they were all nice other than that.

The nurses and entire staff went out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The first night I went to ICU but then on to the VIP suite that also had two large picture windows to look out. It was actually hard to go home they were all so nice.
One thing that is incredible is that this program uses the same staff for each surgery. They always have a Anesthia (sp?) Doctor that knows the needs of an obese person. They all work together everytime, so the quality and consistent care is incredible. They have thought of everything.
