St. Marks Hospital Hospital

Only negative was the use of a nurse's aid who discounted important vital sign information in the night following my surgery, then when I asked for a nurse, she also discounted my concerns and said she "didn't believe the result" of the blood pressure reading done by her assistant. Rather than addressing the problem, she denied it existed. The result was a complication that could have been avoided. Instead I had an additional day's hospitalization. The doctor was also not responsive when I insisted he be called about the condition. The following day he admitted, though not his responsibility in it, that there was this complication and covertly agreed I was right in my concerns. He just dealt with the problem at that time without apology for not responding appropriately.

I was quite sick after my surgeries (i sadly had to have two) I had so many IV's my veins were blown. They sent one of their "best" in and she blew it. My husband who's a medic was there and I asked him if he wanted to do it. He did it on the first try. Hmmm....go figure - what's up with the staff here?

Rooms are very, very small. It took quite a bit of energy for me to get any attention from any of the nursing staff and usually ended up either doing it for myself or having to wait an insane amount of time. But when you did have their attention they were very nice and very knowlegeble. They knew all the answers.

The nurses and assistants were all in a big hurry. I think they may have been spread too thin. I kinda felt that I was on an assembly line and they were doing what they had to do until I was discharged. I didn't feel they were too concerned with me as an individual. I wasn't informed about my care or status. If it wasn't for the books I read prior to surgery I prolly wouldn't have had a clue. They did give very brief instructions on my diet.
