University of Chicago Hospitals Hospital

I want to say that my doctor, Dr Prachand was wonderful and his staff, but the staff at the hospital the nurses were poor and did not seem to know much about WLS. They did not tell me how much I could eat/drink or that I needed my pills crusted. One of the nurses didnt even know how to operate the bed which resulted in my falling back into the bed right after surgery. My stomach was hurting so bad. I would NEVER stay at this hospital ever again.

The hospital staff was very nice even the janitorial staff, I give a shout out to Ms. Johnson she was a hoot and every-time she came in my room she just brought a nice calm presence with her and made my day. The only other beef I had was the nursing staff couldn't get an I.V. started after 9 tries with 3 different nurses my mom finally requested that they call an anesthesiologist or a I.C.U. nurse, at first they didn't and then 2 hours went by with no I.V. and they finally called an I.C.U. nurse and she got the I.V. in on the first try.

I only have 1 negative comment out of my whole experience at U of C. The waiting for a room to become available right after surgery was horrible. I waited for 10 hours and also the bed that I was in was inoperable at first and no-one truly attempted to try and correct it for me until my second day there.

I found the nurses to be wonderful in their care during my stay. The U of C is a research hospital and a training hospital, so you must be prepared for students to be looking, asking questions and probing. However, I found them to be very respectful and did what they were assigned without over stepping their boundaries.

I was told that I would have a private room. It ended up being semi-private due to all of the surgical patients that day. My roommate moaned in pain all night from her back surgery. The overnight Nurse Aide was very rude and unprofessional. She stated that someone should have told me that they weren't going to keep unhooking and hooking my compression stockings back up because I wanted to go to the restroom. I had her removed as my aide and will be doing a formal complaint.
