What's on your Tuesday Menu, RNYers?

I wear Flexees by Maidenform. Kohls and some Walmarts carry them. I wear the long camisole as the area right above my jeans is where I need the help. They're fairly comfortable but it would just be amazing to see what I look like without all that skin.

It's a shame that the insurance industry doesn't consider skin removal after WLS to be part of the process as they do for breast reconstruction after breast cancer. Must be because they still haven't fully accepted that obesity is a disease and needs to be treated as such.

Yes. They'd rather pay for our high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes med than pay for us to have weight loss surgery. They have so many hoops to jump through they hope you'll just give up..

I completely agree. I believe it's important with respect to completing a change of mindset. The only reason i'm considering it is because even 4 years post surgery, I still see the same fat woman staring back at me from the mirror. I'm not convinced that PS will cure that, but I think it would help.

I could have said the exact same words you just did. I was thinking about going for a consult to just see how much it would cost but I think it'd be like a teaser.

I'm going for a consult next wednesday with the plastic surgeon who works in my WL surgeon's practice. I was talking to his scheduler and she was saying how much better it would be for me if I had skin/rash issues since they can try to get insurance to contribute. i've had some, so I'll have to see if there's something we can do. I'm afraid to hear the cost from a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon (which is basically what this guy is, even though he's associated with the hospital) It sucks to try to get plastics in the plastic surgery capital of the world. The costs are astronomical.

I look forward to hearing how your consult goes. I have very small skin irritation issues in my stomach area but highly doubt it would do much to help. I suppose I could try. The draping stomach skin makes me feel very chubby, which was my nick name growing and also in the warm weather I refuse to let anyone see these crape paper bat hanging arms... oof. Anyway, I hope it goes well for you!

  • I agree, I think that's the reason why. Because lifestyle is involved rather than pure random bad luck, it is easier for negative judgments to be made. This despite the fact that metabolic disease is crippling and at our level, statistically virtually untreatable other than in the very short term, short of surgical intervention. I know I'm going to want plastics once I'm ready. I wish this was recognized by the industry as being reconstructive and necessary, rather than simply an exercise in vanity. It's almost a punishment.

Sorry you didn't get the drain out. I remember being impatient wanting those out. I totally understand missing out on exercise time, but it will come back soon. I think I told you that my PS warned me that if I didn't give myself enough time to heal I could have swelling for up to a year-so take it easy on yourself.
