My day is coming on Monday! Soooo.... how long do I stay home.... I have a desk job. Is going back to week after a week doable?

Congrats on your surgery. I also have a job that is mostly at a desk. I took off a full week and then teleworked for 2 more weeks. I was really tired after surgery and needed the time to get in naps and rest. Some people do go back to work after a week, but I'm really glad that I had the extra time.

at a week out I was out and about and driving again. I suppose I could have gone back to work, but I was pretty tired. Half days might have been better. I stayed out for three weeks, but I could have easily gone back after two.

I'm taking four! I have a desk job but there's a lot of stress and I know my employers will try to drain me dry (they were already emailing me at 4 days post-op).

Also I commute via subway and at 10 days post-op there's no way I'm ready for that.

I took 2 weeks, then WFH for 2 (desk job). If I HAD to go back in one week I could have, but I would have been super tired and it was good to have my drinking and eating patterns established before going back.

How much is critical thinking required on the job? Even if you are physically able, the anesthesia fog can stay in your head for several weeks. Many have returned to work able to handle it physically but made some critical errors in judgment.

Either way, seeing so many people here talking about it, it's easy to forget that this is a major surgery. You may not even be off of pain meds in a week. You probably won't get your first post-op appt for two weeks post-op. You may still be too swollen for your work clothes to fit. Put in for a month away, with an opportunity to return early if you find yourself feeling fabulous, and a window to stay home longer if you need it. I took a total of 8 weeks off, from Halloween through New Years. I was grateful for the first six weeks and took the final two weeks working myself into a routine that would work at the office.

I had surgery on a Tuesday and was back to work the next Tuesday. I was tired and took a nap each day after work for no more than an hour but made it through pretty good.
