Is it possible to lose 218lbs?
I'm considering having a two part surgery to make sure all the weight comes off. My BMI is 59. Can I lose all this weight with just the RNY? I want even consider a revision of the RNY if it isn't successful. I would however have the sleeve and lose what I could with it to get my BMI lower and then have the RNY. What do you think? Can I reach goal with one surgery?
You might reach goal with just RNY. But with your BMI, have you considered the DS?
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
The DS is considered the best surgery for those with BMI over 50
I looked into WLS when my BMI was 60, but didn't have it until my BMI was 50.
I lost a total of 204 pounds.
It is POSSIBLE to lose 218 lbs with RNY
But nobody can say if it is possible for YOU to lose that much. A lot depends on muscle tone, body style, etc etc etc.

NP!
The DS was just too scary for me with all the intestinal rearranging. I also wanted the most restriction from day 1. The two women who had DS through my clinic about a month before me have had multiple surgeries since and one is still in a rehab hospital. Probably not typical, but it helped make up my mind.
So far, I've had zero complications and I feel great physically!

RNY on 07/30/12
Thanks for all your responses. I have an endoscopy scheduled for Friday then a follow up appt. with my surgeon to go over the results. I will ask him what he thinks at that time. I have just spent hours a day online going over stats of post ops of the RNY and to lose 95% of your EWL after surgery is not the norm......some folks have done it from their "highest weight" but from surgery weight to completion is not the norm. I appreciate your help. Maybe I need to shoot for more like 190.
