This was a week of many firsts!  I started out the week last Wednesday with a GoKart date.  It was fortuitous that I should be asked on a date involving gokarts as gokarting has been on my "list."  When I think of things I could not, or would not, have done at 277, gokarts stood out in my mind.  I should also admit that I am not a gokart/adrenaline type person.  I am very much a better-safe-than-sorry type, so even gokarts pose an undesirable risk in my mind.  An interesting byproduct of surgery has been that I'm more "chill."  I tend to go with the flow.  More about that and my theories later.  Anyway, my date and I had 3 races.  2 of which I lost (multiple other people involved) and 1 of which I placed second to last   I have to admit that, even where I am now, gokarts aren't exactly comfortable.  Not only did we ride gokarts, but he took me in his sporty little car.  And when I say little, I mean it!  It fit like a glove, and getting in and out wasn't exactly graceful--but heckofa lot better than I could've ever hoped to do before when I probably would've needed the jaws of life to help me out!

Friday we left for a holiday in Colorado.  I'd never been to Colorado, and up in the foothills of the mountains I can see why people live there.  BEAUTIFUL.  The mornings were very crisp and made me excited for the fall...here in Oklahoma we've been experiencing triple digit temperatures for the past nearly month...hottest summer of my memory.  Anyway, the first thing I noticed is the altitude.  It didn't bother me!  Maybe I have mentioned before, but I am a horrible asthmatic.  Horrible.  Like I get nervous when my inhaler is not within arm's reach.  So thin air only compounds the problem.  But not this time!  I literally had NO trouble whatsoever with normal breathing, and only used my inhaler a couple times.

I HIKED!  I don't think I can say I've ever really, truly, been on a hike before.  We drove around to several lakes up in the mountains and then finally hiked to the last, gorgeous, one.  Check.  I also road on these four-wheel vehicals (ATV?).  I have to admit, I was pretty nervous about that.  See above for explanation of scaredycatness.  The next day I went horseback riding.  Another victory for former fatty scaredycat.  Wasn't sure I'd make it on that one--the first time the horse shifted weight, I thought I'd hop off for sure.  But I made it, even when Audie galloped.  Horseback riding, check.  Finally, on the Fourth of July, I went river rafting.  I probably could've gotten away with rafting beforehand, but I cannot imagine how uncomfortable the life jacket would've seemed.  Rafting.  Check.

So this was the week of many firsts.  Made possible, mostly, by my surgery.  Getting out there.  Living.  That's what it's about!  Have a great week, friends.  Hope you had as memorable of a Fourth as I did.  Pics follow...
