2 WEEK DR. CHECK UP

Jul 15, 2010

I went Tuesday, July 13, 2010 to my 2 week checkup.  I have lost 16 lb. since my surgery, and 3.5 inches off my waist.  They said that is pretty good and pretty average.  I am still dehydrated and my dr. wants met to try to get in 100 oz. instead of 64 oz. daily - so far I have failed majorly with this.  I can't stand to drink that much, hurts stomach.  I have only been walking the minimum suggested which is about 10 minutes an hour, just because I have felt so drained and exhausted since I haven't been feeling well.  I really need to step up my walking so I will get better results.

2 WEEKS AND 2 DAYS POST OP

Jul 15, 2010

I am having a very tough time with this new lifestyle.  I can't get enough fluids in (ranging from 60 to 68 oz.) and I am still dehydrated.  My dr. wants me to try to get in 100 oz. a day. THERE IS NO WAY!  I also HATE the taste of food!  All the stuff I am to be on for 6 weeks post op is mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, beans, yogurt, oatmeal, etc. and I HATE EVERY BITE OF IT!  I don't get it, I used to love all of these foods so I thought I had it made.  I have went a couple of days with no food at all only protein drinks for protein.  Dr. said I need to make myself eat, so I am trying hard.  I can't wait til I can eat more normal foods and hopefully they will taste better than what's going on with me now.

Dr. Visit Results

Jul 15, 2010

The cat scan came back ok, thank God. I am dehydrated with bowels blocked.  I have to do a bottle enema and stool softeners.  I am relieved it was nothing serious.

Dr. Visit

Jul 06, 2010

Ok, so I went to dr. and find out that I'm dehydrated, bowels are stopped up, and not sure about why I've got pain so I had to go to hospital and do a Cat scan and will find out results tomorrow.  I had to do an enema bottle to help with stools, and also started stool softeners.  Also have to up my liquids more.  I have to get to feeling better soon!

7 DAYS POST-OP

Jul 05, 2010

Today has been 1 week since my surgery and I feel like my new pouch hates me.  I am SO bloated I feel like I could pop, mainly when I drink my protein shakes.  I cannot poop unless I take Milk of Magnesia at bedtime, and then it's only light diahera, and not that much.  I keep having a pain in my left side, not where the incisions are, over farther.  I cannot pass gas from the bottom, but am burping constantly and hiccuping.  I felt good in hospital, but so far miserable at home.  Today is the first day that has started off a little better. Not so much bloating, etc.  I called my Dr. and told him the symptoms and he wants me to come in today at 3pm just to access the situation and make sure I'm ok.  I'm having a really hard time getting my foods/proteins/water in on schedule.  When I time myself, there's just not enough time through the day to fit it all in.  I quit drinking milk in my protein shakes yesterday because it was really painful and the bloating was unbearable, felt I could cry!  Anyway, so I hope I get good news at the Dr. office.  We will see.

Day 2 AT HOME

Jul 03, 2010

So far, still in major pain, and lots of gas in stomach. I am very swelled.  I still am holding on to the 11 lb. fluids I gained in hospital.  It is only late morning and it has taken everything I have just to get in meds, water, etc. on timely schedule and without intertwining things that shouldn't go together like certain meds, etc.  I hope the day gets batter, and hope tomorrow is better and every day better and better than the one before!

GOT HOME FROM HOSPITAL TODAY

Jul 02, 2010

July 2, 2010 - I had surgery on Tuesday, June 29, 2010.  The Dr. said everything went "textbook case" well.  They weighed me right before surgery, and I weighed 237.4 on their scale.  I weighed today before I left and I weighed 248.4 - 11 lb. increase due to fluids, which they said was normal and would come off easy. That night after my surgery, I didn't get to sleep at all!  I kept stopping breathing for some reason.  They ended up taking me off morphine and my self serve pain pump and switched me to Lortab and something else. Then I didn't have any issues like that the other nights.  I am very excited that I'm not hungry at all, had to make myself eat.  I got released at 3 prm today to come home and have been miserable! I can't get comfortable at all on our couch and feel like I'm pulling everything when I get up. I'm really scared to be home and try to do everything "on time" and on my own, like my meds.  I can only take certain ones at certain times, etc. I was doing well in hospital on getting water in until they put me on stage 1 diet yesterday (mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, etc.) and when I had to space water out half hour before, during and after each meal, I was having an impossible time getting it all in.  One good thing about this was during our preop classes, I met this woman, LIsa, and her hubby.  Her surgery was scheduled the same day as mine, and right before me.  Also her room was right beside mine and we got to talk and walk the halls together, etc.  It was wonderful having someone there.  We exchanged info so we could stay in touch and I look forward to that friendship.  They took my drain out today so I didn't have to come home with it - which I am very happy about.  I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight because my bed is so high up - and I can't get comfortable on couch even to sit, let alone sleep.  Any suggestions?  Keep me in your prayers for speedy recovery. God bless.

GOT SCOPE DONE TODAY

Jun 21, 2010

June 21, 2010

I got my scope done today. I don't remember a whole lot, but I think I remember burping really really loudly in dr.'s face several time during the process of them going down my throat.  That or I was gagging loud.  I just vaguely remember the noice. I am home now resting, still a little fuzzy and goofy feeling. I got the news that everything went great and surgery is scheduled as planned! Thank God! I am sooooo excited!

Met With Surgeon Today

Jun 16, 2010

June 16, 2010
I met with Dr. Lee today.  He went over all my labs, tests, etc. said everything looked great.  Then he went over the risks and benefits again and went through what was going to happen at the surgery.  He is great!  I feel very comfortable with him. Since I saw him6 weeks ago, I went down 8.5 lb. and lost 1 inch around my weight and went down 2 points on my BMI ( is 42.9 now)  Woo hoo! It may look like small steps now, but I  am still excited!  13 more days til surgery! It seems like its taking forever, but at the same time seems right around the corner LOL.  Go figure!

BACK ON TRACK

Jun 13, 2010

Ok, I've not recorded food log lately due to being busy, (I know, I know, I need to do better) but I'm doing MUCH better now! Yeah, it's hard and I want to eat everything in sight...but I'm NOT.  I'm doing it all good now.  And although hard...it's well worth it.  It feels good to see a pound come off here, and one off there.  I go the 16th to meet with the surgeon one more time before surgery. I am getting so much more nervous and excited at the same time.  It feels like it's taking forever to get here, yet at the same time I feel like I'm running out of time to get things done that I want to before surgery LOL.
