Month Four

Dec 21, 2009

I made a promise to my self that until the weight was all off that I would post a blog monthly, trying to figure what about month four was special.  Today, at four months out I can say I feel normal.  I am past the accidental overeating and getting sick stage.  I am finally in tune with my body and the quantities that it needs.  I had a chop small salad for lunch today maybe 1/3 of a cup.  The same recipe I used to make preop and would eat three cups.  I no longer desire or crave more or envy others for the quantities they can eat.  I simply eat less and it feels normal.

I won a challege with the OH 150 or more to lose group for sticking to weight loss and health goals of food planning, logging, exercise and motivational posting.  Not to belittle my accomplishment but being laid off I should have been able to dedicate a ton more time to this and since the challenge ended I have not maintained the exercise and food diary.  I have been eating relatively well with only one day of chocolate covered sponge candy.

Speaking of laid off, for two months now with three more paid months to go, I put in 20 hrs work for the family business and finally feel myself getting out of the funk and I will polish up the resume after Christmas and start an earnest search.

Month Three...

Dec 02, 2009

...SUCKED.

Found out middle of October that due to cost cutting my position was being eliminated after twenty two years in various positions.  Sixty other people I work with were in the same boat as me I won't take it personal.

But even so I managed to hang in there and lost 11 pounds total in Late October/Early November.  Not as much as I would like but I will confess to more cafe mochas and grazing that I should have done and the sleeve still did the job.

I have applied for seven positions so far:

Two positions passed screening and hiring manager declined to interview
Two positions wrong degree even though I have a world of experience
One  was a Sales Customer Relationship Management software DBA at an insurance company that has been open since January. (the  insurance company that approved my VSG)

One waiting on second screening DBA for the first college I graduated from in Accounting would love it because ot offers free tuition as a perk but not a perfect fit to my skills.

Today I applied with a competitor of the company that I worked (they have 11 official competitors)  for that is an excellent fit to my skills, not counting chickens before they hatch but I would have forfeit my severance pay if I am selected.

Two others recruiter called me to ask me to interview with clients for contract positions, they must have been on drugs when they read my resume because they were not even close with my skills.

Ah and yes, every insurance sales company says my resume is PERFECT.  Not even touching that one.

I still have 18 weeks of pay coming through late March 2010, plenty of time to look.  November was a month to mostly vegged, play computer games and feel sorry for myself. Now I need to get the but in gear and look a little harder.

XPOST - My endocrinologist appointment...I am normal

Nov 18, 2009

==This is a duplicate of a VSG forum post that I felt was blog worthy my numbers are looking good==

The endocrinologist scale is 4 pounds less than mine fully clothed so 268 instead of the 272 out of the shower 1 hour earlier.

A1C (measures average  blood sugar over three months)  6.0, down from 11.5 when diabetes was first diagnosed  October 2008 and 8.5 preop.   Considered normal range.

Fasting Glucose 81, 173 when first diagnosed and about 114 on the previous few fasting tests.

Blood pressure 100/70 have always been on the high side of normal138/88 but not enough for meds.

I did have to decrease my thryroid medication, they said with the weight loss I have too much circulating T4 even though I have not felt bad as a result but I need to adjust meds and visit again in nine weeks.

With this blood test review diabetes is offically in remission.  Goodbye Metformin, Byetta, and Lisinopril, all I take now is Levothyroxine for my thyroid.

Third Day of Couch to 5k

Nov 13, 2009

Feeling pretty good.  My run is more like a jog and my brisk walk could use some work.

Debating on if I should do the week one another week or forge into week two.

Other than my hip-hop class I have done little in the way of exercise for the past two months so I hope this helps enhance my rate of loss.

I got my first continuation paycheck yesterday post lay-off and it was 400 less than a normal two week check, on closer examination I am subject to a higher state and federal tax rate since it is money paid for not working.  I knew the rate would be higher but not by that much. 300 federal and 100 state.

First thing I did was cancel the 401k contributions which will give me a few hundred more in the gross it will be nice when February rolls around and I get the refund.

Two Months Out

Nov 07, 2009

Was laid off from work on October 23 after 22 years with the same company.

Sucks but at least I get severance through March 2010 while I look for a new job.  I have been in a funk, not depressed but feeling down and wanting to sleep and veg on the computer rather than exercise or job search.

I did my blood work last week and will have my three month post op appointment on the 10th (ten days early).

I need to be more consciencious about water, vitamins, exercise and tracking it all on sparkpeople.com

Need to go shopping for a new blouse in case I get called for an interview.

One month of progress

Sep 28, 2009

I posted my one month progress shots today.

Yeah would have been nice to lose more but some positive ways to look at it...

20 pounds = 13% of my excess weight gone  in only one month.

One third of my total way to goal since starting the journey last year October 2009

Accomplished in 4 weeks what I have struggled with for 16 years of breaking the 300 barrier.

Had my daughter tell me I look smaller.

Had my daughter say I did better than she thought I would in HipHop class.

Have not noticed any significant hair loss.

Made it - First Day of Hip Hop Class Over

Sep 24, 2009

An hour of crunches, body rolls, shoulder rolls, diva walks and foot steps I can't recall the name of.

I can feel it already in my back and abs and I damn well better be under 300 tomorrow for going through it.  My daughter said I did better than she expected so I think that is a nice compliment from a 16 year old that has been dancing since she was 9.

It was awkward watching myself in a mirror but I know it can only get easier.

Breakfast  cup of ice cold Bolthouse Farms Perfectly Protein Mocha Cappuccino,  carby but a decadent treat. http://www.bolthouse.com/html/cs_mocha_n.html

My lunch today was a Lean Pocket (Guts Only)Garlic Chicken White Pizza.  I nuke it and then split it open and just eat the inside and it is just the right amount.  270 calories less the 38 carbs x 4 calories (152 calories) is a net of roughly 13 g protein and 118 calories.  I know it is not entirely accurate, there may have been carbs in the sauce but some of the sauce was stuck to the wrap and no big deal in the end.

Dinner liquid protein, just not feeling into the real food thing.  Snack just now half a cup apple cider, yeah yeah real apple is better but tis the season and had to try some.

301.2 So close to breaking into the twos...

Sep 23, 2009

It feels strange to be on the verge breaking 300 with so little effort but two days till weigh in and it being that "time of the month" I am pretty sure this will be the week.  I was 301 the day I gave birth in 1993 and have struggled with that mark for 16 years rarely getting close 335 was my usual low point.

The last time I was under 300 I got to 286 and stalled several months.  I then took a job that was mostly travel and gained all back plus more nine years ago.  My daughter was four when I started an 18 month Atkins diet.  I can remember taking her to Wendy's and stealing "just one" fry while low carb dieting and calculating the carbs.

I nuked a mozzerella stick with some salsa for breakfast and was only able to eat about 2/3 if the stick and it was no longer appealing.  My relationship with food is so different, I feel free from a bad relationship.

This change in food patterns is like dumping that X that you knew was bad for you and stayed with too long.  At first you mourn the loss but as time goes by you realize that you should have ended it ages ago and eventually you think of them in an entirely different light.
