options

Sep 23, 2011

Crazy as it sounds, I now have a BMI of 40 again.  Sucks - I have gained 30lbs back that I lost.  I am not real pleased with myself.  I am looking at having the lap band done as a revision.  That is an option.  I have checked with my insurance and it seems to be an option.

The best option though is to lose my weight by exercise and diet.  Crazy thought there huh.  Today I am headed to Detroit, so today is not a good day to start.  Tomorrow, Sunday is.

So, here is my first goal.

I have a doctors appointment in three weeks for my yearly physical.  I would like to be back down to under 320 by then.

The way to do this - low carb and exercise until then.

sclerotherapy

Dec 01, 2010

Well, today at 10:00, I am having my sclerotherapy.  I am really hoping this works in helping me lose the 60 lbs I need to lose yet.  When I went to the doctor yesterday I was 229lbs.  Have been on liquids all day yesterday.  Really was not that bad.  Should be on liquids for two more days.

I met with the dietician yesterday.  She gave me suggestions on how to lower my fat content and where I should be carb wise also.  So when I am back on normal foods, I have a plan to follow.  I am still going to go lower carb, but also work on lowering my fat.  She does not recommend the pork rinds - too much fat.  Prefers pretzels, pop corn or 100 cal pack snacks.  I might check out Costco to see what they have in 100 cal pack snacks - not sweet snacks but crackers, etc.

starting phase 2

Nov 20, 2010

I made it two weeks (almost). with no sugar.  Then I went to my cousins first birthday party. I did good.  They served sandwiches (premade).  I took the bread off and only ate the meat.  They had pasta salad - skipped that.  They had chips.  I took maybe 1/2 serving and 4 meatballs.  Not bad.  The meatballs had sauce over them, which probably added a lot of carbs.  Then they served cake and ice cream.  I think the grandma didn't want to bring home extra ice cream because she served large portions.  I ate ice cream and a small piece of cake.  It was homemade cake so that was not bad.  I could feel the sugar hit though.  I got home and took a long nap.  Then ate dinner and then had to go to the bathroom.  Boy did that sugar hit.  I actually think I dumped.  Not be gross.  I am thinking that was good.  I now have in my brain that sugar is not good for me.

I am starting phase two foods from the South Beach Diet.  I don't know how I did it but I actually ate plain oatmeal.  I added 1/2 cup of blueberries.  It took me 30 minutes to get it down, but I did.  I also bought whole wheat bread.  Not my favorite, but I really need to get used to it.

I do have also lost 6lbs during phase 1.  I have two more weeks to lose 4 lbs in two weeks - and that includes Thanksgiving.   I didn't get to the gym at all during the past two weeks.  I have exercised some - not enough but some.

I am hoping the rain holds out today so I can get the leaves picked up from my yard.  That will give me some good exercise.

So my goals for this week - I am going to follow phase two all week.  Thursday is Thanksgiving and my Thanksgiving meal is not a phase two meal.  So I am allowing Thursday to be my free day.  I also want to to make sure I get to the gym everyday this week.  Thursday again will be the exception.  This should help me get closer to my 10lb goal.

surviving

Nov 17, 2010

Well, I have now gone 10 days as low carb.  Not 100% sure I am low carb.  I have been averaging 40 carbs a day - some days higher some days lower.  I have elimated breads, pasta and refined sugar.  So far I have lost 5 lbs.  I am kind of disappointed that I lost 5 lbs the first week and nothing the second.  I am just now starting my period, so I think I am retaining water.  Hopefully on Monday I will be down a few more lbs.  It hasn't been as hard as I thought it was going to be.

Haven't been able to get to the gym this week at all - school.  I am definatly stopping on my way home from work tomorrow.

end of the first week

Nov 14, 2010

So day 6 stunk.  I was not very good.  Had the munchies.  Was able to at least eat only the foods on my OK to eat list.

Today was so so.  Good breakfast.  Then went to Sam's Joint for lunch.  Got a full rack of ribs - at maybe a third.  Ribs were OK to eat - barbque sause - NOT.  Also ate 7 fries and 1/4 c. coleslaw.

At 1 piece of ham pizza (med) - through that stuff out.  Then had 4 slices of ham lunch meat and 1 pickle, 1 oz of cheese and 3 oz of turkey tenderloin.  Then I had a protein shake.  Now it's off to bed.

Next week is going to be a good week.

day 4 and 5.

Nov 12, 2010

Well my boyfriend went to get his pain shot on Thursday - my day 4.  Did great throughout the day then, things went to hell in a hand basket - not really, but not the best.  We didn't get out of there until almost 6:00.  I had to bring dinner to a family from our church so I ended up order pizza.  Got a pizza for us also.  I had two pieces - way over my carb goal.  Needless to say, I had left over pizza for dinner on day 5.

Now that being said, all was not bad.  I have learned some lessons through this first week

1.  Staying between 1200 and 1500 calories is not all that hard when you eliminate the sugar.  Also, I am satisified with meat and veggies - no potatoes.  I am still craving sweets, but I am hoping that will pass soon.  Happens mostly about 2:00pm - my afternoon break.

2.  My protein intake has increased significantly.  I am getting twice as much protein as I usually do.

Day 4, we had a munchie day at work.  No one brought appropriate munchies for me.  I was able to stay away from the sugar and chips so that's a plus for me.

Day 5 we had our harvest lunch at work.  I did really good all things considered - I had white meat turkey, brocolli, two develied eggs (halfs - one whole).  and some cheese slices.  Skipped the desert and bread tables all together.

Day 6 is starting out good.  This may be the hardest day of all.  I will be at home all day (or most of it).

Wish me luck.

day 3 - not so good

Nov 10, 2010

Rough day.  Could not get anything that satisfied me.  Many a bad choice with trail mix.  I read the label wrong.  After I ate it all and started logging it, I realized that there were two servings in there.  Needless to say instead of 120 calories, it was 240 and instead of 15 carbs, there were 30.  UUggh.  Needless to say I had over 40 carbs today and 1450 calories.

Tomorrow is another day.

As for my moods - doesn't seem to be effecting me.  I haven't really noticed much of the mood swings.  Don't seem to be cranky or irritable.

day 2 - I really wanted chocolate

Nov 09, 2010

So I was doing really good today.  Nothing that i can really say that made me think I was going through the withdrawls everyone talks about.  Then about 2:00 It hit.  I wanted chocolate.  My break is at 2:30, and I have gotten in the habit of having a candy bar at that time.  Needless to say, I was ready to kill for chocolate.  I maintained though.  Went downstairs and got a coffee.  It was Coffee Liquer Truffle.  Had a mild chocolate taste to it.  Nothing major, but it was ok.  Made it through that "crisis".  Had dinner all figured out.  I was going to stop and get hamburger helper and mix it with the steak tips I made this morning.  Then Dennis called.  He was "starving" wanted Palermos subs.  I called before I got home and they had salads.  So I got a grilled chicken salad.   Then I went through the food list and found one comparable.  250 calories with 12 carbs.  I think I did excellent.  Now if I can just get through the night without snacking I will be good.  It is 5:44pm, may be in bed by 7:00pm  (just kidding).  I should do ok.

day 1

Nov 08, 2010

Well I guess it could have been worse.  I am at 32 grams of carbs.  Trying to stay under 20.  So here is where I went wrong.  Grabed the wrong ham.  Accidently got honey ham.  For 3 ounces that's a whopping 7 carbs.  Needless to say, dennis is getting ham tonight for dinner. Lesson #2.  - amazed at how many carbs my salad added up to.  I am thinking they were good carbs because all the carbs I had on were "on the ok" list.  I am going to have to figure something else out.

Tonight after bowling my snack is going to be non fat cottage cheese - how exciting.  I just don't want to add more carbs.

I feel ok.  Didn't have any issues, but the night is still young.  We will see what tomorrow brings.  I might blog a little more tonight.

prep day

Nov 06, 2010

I am in the preparation mode for going carb free.  Went through the South Beach Diet book and made of lists of food to eat and a list of foods to avoid for the the next two weeks.  I'm sort of confused about some of them.  It's not really carb free but very low carb.  I also did go the grocery store yesterday and got the foods I need for the next couple weeks.  I actually did pretty good - chicken breasts were on sale, found turkey burgers on clearance as well as turkey brats.  Also picked up a turkey tenderloin.  Got my veggies for salad.  Brocolli and cauliflower were on sale also.

today my plan is to prepare the foods.  I am going to cook the chick and turkey.  Cut up the veggies.  Then I am going to put in individual bags.  I am also going to add the foods to the health tracker, so it will make it easier to log my foods.

I think as long as I am prepared I will do fine on this.  Tomorrow morning I am going to weigh myself and then try not to check my weight for a week.

Wish me luck
