Hi Dana, I get about 50 to 60 grams of protein, and the carbs are about 40 to 50 so that is a little high, and as far as calories about 700 to 750. I got on the scale this morning and it is up another pound. this is what I ate yesterday. 16oz protein 4 crackers with peanut butter 2 string cheese 1/2 cup of beef and brocoli 1/4 cup carrots and sm tortilla with ground beef and beans and cheese. I also got 60oz of water and 1 16oz minute made light guava mango. so I guess I need to stop the carbs. I have had the scale move up when I have alot of sugar but that also caused me to be very sick. Thanks so much for helping. faith 389/253/???

I've always been cold but surgery has definitely made it worse! LOL I always have a sweatshirt or sweater with me, even if the temperature is in the 80's - chances are i'm cold. ~~Melissa~~ 297/195/140

Topic: RE: Goal Weight Question
My surgeons goal for me is 182 which is too high, being that I'm 5'1" - I used to weigh about 125lbs but I'll be happy with around 140. ~~Melissa~~ 297/195/140

hi faith: sounds like you're doing what you need to do so maybe you've just slowed down on your weight loss. i know i needed to step back from the scale cause i was letting it bother me way too much. i've been losing, albeit slowly, but when i was weighing myself daily i would see it go up and down repeatedly, and it was not pleasant to watch. i can relate to the back pain, too. you've lost so much weight that your body is seeking it's new center of gravity - if that makes sense. my sister's a nurse and that's how she explained it to me. and since then, i noticed many different little things. for instance, i was used to walking bent over slightly, to accomodate the extra weight, i guess. so i'm consciously trying to straighten up now - it matters for your back. i also noticed that as i straighten up, my body brings my hips forward, so now when i walk i try to remember to walk with my body lined up (head over shoulders over hips...) i think it's starting to make a difference, too. as i move with my hips more forward, i'm using the upper thigh muscles more, so they ache alot, but at least i understand why, now. i haven't used them in awhile. sorry this is so long, faith. guess i'm kinda wordy, but i hope it helps. take it easy, and lose the scale not your hope. hugs dorthe

Faith, how many calories, carbs, fats, proteins are you eating daily? My surgeon recommended at least 60 protein, less than 30 carbs and doesn't say much about fats but at this stage we should be eating about 700+ calories per day. As for your back, I can sympathize with you. Although I also had back problems pre-op, I am still having it. Now it is more like muscle pulls, I was told that the body is use to carrying weight a certain way and as we lose the weight our bodies have to adjust. Hope your back gets feeling better soon. Dana

Hi all, First of all I have been tracking my food on Fit-day. It was a very good suggestion. I tried to up my intake. Well I have gained 1lb I upped my water intake also. I have added a protein shake and the scale is going up. Help i have been having a back problem the past 4 days I went to the doc. They said that it was due to many years of being overweight. Well I said why is it bothering me now I have lost 137lbs. He said it finaly cought up with me. We will never know. it is better now and I went for a short walk at break time with a co-worker. I also am on the top floor of the office so I use the stairs not the elevator. It is not helping so any body know what the next step should be. Help Please. not sure what to do. 389/252/??? faith

It sounds like you're doing a good job but if you're concerned take a step back and look at what you're eating and drinking. up the protein and the water. go back to the basics. i had to do that a few times. i don't work so i have the luxury of exercising 4-6 days a week. i do a video walk every day and that's a lot easier to stick to (for me anyway). and as far as nutrition i try to avoid as much bad carbs as possible, i go for 60 grams of protein, and get at least 64 oz of water and reward myself with flavored drinks if i get in all my water. i agree the other post...park further and take the stairs that's always a help. i use my dog to get me motivated too...i take him for walks throughout the day. good luck to you!! (((Cassandra))), Ok throw the scale away, and please don't compare yourself, we are all different. You can do this girlfriend, stay positive and use your tool. As for eating, a typical day for me is as follows: B - 1/2 protein bar, or 1/2 c. l/f cottage cheese, or 1 egg and 1 piece of bacon L - 2-3 oz meat (chicken, beef, shrimp) 1 oz vegetables 1/2 apple or 1/2 pear or 5-6 grapes D - 2-3 oz. meat 1-2 oz vegetables S - Protein Drink Do you monitor your protein, carbs, calories, etc? I bet that is where you need to start if you aren't doing it. Fitday.com is free and a great program to use. I do my best to eat at least 60 grams of protein a day, keep carbs below 30 (preferrably 20), and calories are around 700 a day. As for exercise, I've slacked off , not good but I'm going back to Curves today, heck I'm paying for it, I need to use it. Any exercise you get helps ~~ park further and walk, take the stairs instead of elevator, just get moving. I suggest you change your daily routine, how much water you drink, change your meals and walk at least 30-45 minutes a day. Your body is getting use to the same routine, so jumpstart it. You can do this, don't give up, persistance and patients wins the race . Hugs, Dana

((((Krystle)))), thanks sweetie . You are probably right, most of the time I look in the mirror and think I am still weighing 260 lbs, I guess my mind still percieves the pre-op misery, *sigh*. My DH tells me all the time that I'm to hard on myself, he thinks I look great and he is beginning to think I'm to skinny . I like the glasses to, thought with the weight loss I needed a totally different look. Thanks for being here and being a support to all of us. Dana Lap RNY 2-21-05 260/239/136/130
