Topic: RE: Hypoglycemia Question
i've been told that i'm not eating as frequently as i should. so i started adding protein shakes in between meals and i eat a higher protein bar for breakfast instead of oatmeal. i've read that eating oatmeal for breakfast sets you up for carb cravings all day and can cause your glycemic level to rise and fall to quickly. i'm learning a lot about how food words with your body by reading the south beach diet book. it's very interesting. even if you don't follow that diet really it's interesting to know about the foods that make your blood sugar rise then crash. when mine crashes i usually take a glucose tablet to get it up then eat something high in protein to keep it up. like cheese or a shake. i hope this helps a little Steph

Topic: Hypoglycemia Question
I just had a crash and burn here.....I know it's a sugar crash, use to have it alot pre-op. I know this seems to be quiet common with post-ops, if you've experienced it, what exactly are you doing to keep it in control? How often do you find this happening? It's only the 3rd time since surgery it's happened to me, I had oatmeal with Vanilla Very Berry Protein powder for breakfast (around 7:30) and around 10:30 the shakes started. Any suggestions and insight appreciated. Hugs, Dana

OMG Sarah, the hypoglocemic thing i****ting me right now, this is only the 3rd time since surgery this is happened, I was diabetic before so I am aware of what is happening. I just had to eat 2 peanut butter crackers, that's all I had available at the spur of the moment and I really didn't want to try to go get something, very shaky. Hoping it quits soon. I'm trying to figure out when this happens, I had oatmeal with Vanilla Very Berry protein powder this morning and now I'm wondering if it's the carbs from oatmeal . Weird feeling. I haven't done the B-12 shots, only take the sublingual B-12 but thinking maybe I'll set up an appt with my PCP and go that route. Hope you feel better too. Dana

I too am having the same problems. I get feeling hypo-glocemic and shaky. I feel like I need to eat right away and don't always pick the right thing. I have increased my food to every 2-3 hours due to this feeling. I also notice it more when I am stressed or worried. I get B-12 shots and am due for one. I will keep track of the feeling after the shot. The eating more often and drinking less coffee seems to have helped. HOpe you feel better soon. Sarah

Great article Kristen and congratulations on your success. I am like you and feel bad about the fat jokes and fat remarks. No matter what size I get I feel like this type of behavior is unacceptable. Have a great anniversary and re-birthday. Sarah 266/156/140 Re-birthday on 02/16

Congratulations on your date for the surgery. I will be one year out on 02/16. I don't live in NY but would be glad to be available whenever needed. I am only on the boards about once every couple weeks so you can email me at [email protected] and I will reply. I have lost 110 pounds with 20 to go. The last 20 is not that important to me due to being older and feeling good where I am. I have hit the doctor's goal but he BMI chart still says that I am moderately overweight. Feel good and not binging or purging to maintain. Also, only work out 2-3 times a week and maintain well. I have been so obsessed about my weight and size for so many years (started at age 12-13) that it is so nice to have relief from the guilt and shame. Wishing you luck on your surgery. Best decision I could have made in my life. Hugs, Sarah
