Topic: 1 Year Crunch, final stretch.
How is everyone doing getting to their goal weight for their 1 year surgeversary?
Me:
At the start of this challenge, I started at 266
My 1 year goal is 226
Last Check in I weighed in at 258.
Today: 244
lbs left to 1 year goal: 18
I had set my 1 year goal really agressive, 40 lbs in just under 3 months. I'm doing really well, and am not concerned if I make it on the 17th or just a week or two afterwards. I lost 13 lbs for month 11 which is great. I'm still shoting to lose the 18 lbs this month, but it's going to be work. I have to really cut my carbs down to nothing in order to get there, so I've been debating it back and forth, and I'm really going to try for it.
On the upside of things, I've lost 1/2 my body weight. I started this journey at 492, and this week I weighed in at 244 which means I've lost more weight then I weigh (248 lbs). It's really an odd thing to think about although it feels totally surreal. Someone asked me on another forum if I thought there was another me somewhere out there on some other plain of existence. I don't know, what I do know is that I've changed as a person in this past year, for good or bad, I'm not completely sure, I do know that I'm more important to me, and I take extra efforts to take care of me (something i never really did before).
I hope that your all reaching for your goal.

Don't know for me the scale is going up and everyone is asking how much more have I lost. I had a cowoker tell me it looks like I lost anouther 20lbs and I actully have gained 5. My clothes are samller and when I checked I had lost inches but gained weight. So I guess it can be deciving.

Does your friend exercise? Muscle weighs more than fat. Yes, a pound weighs a pound weighs a pound. BUT, if you take a pound of fat and sit it next to a pound of muscle, the muscle can be up to 22% smaller depending on how dense it is. So, you can weigh 170 and LOOK like you weigh 145 if you have a lot of muscle.
That goes hand in hand with what I've been told about BMI not being a good measuring tool for me. A body builder would be considered to be OBESE if you judged them strickly on BMI. That's because they have so much dense muscle mass and it does weigh more than fat.
You should have a body fat percentage done. Normal for women is 24-31%. I'm 25.5 % body fat. WHOA! That's the low end of normal. I'm shooting for less than 24%. Women athletes run 20-24%. I'm almost there!
I've learned a lot about exercise and muscle mass in the last year. My husband would tell you that I'm too educated. LOL

I'm still fat, but I heard tell that WLS surgery patients tend to size smaller than they actually weigh - I guess it's how you carry it? I dunno, but good for you!
Topic: RE: Average Calories Consumed?
Hey Elisa,
I had the DS and eat about 2500-30000 a day, sometimes a bit more sometimes a bit less. On the normal day at least 50 percent of my calories come from fat, about 30 percent (plus) from protein and under 20 percent from carbs.
Hope that helps

Elisa,
By any chance is the smoked turkey processed like lunch meat type of turkey? If so this can have a large amount of sodium which can cause you to retain fluids. You could also be going through a platuea (however, in order for it to be a plateau then you'd have to have had no weight loss or inches lost in over 6 weeks or more). Sometimes our bodies do go through stages where it doesn't know how to react to what we've had done. I haven't lost but 2 lbs over the last 6 weeks but have lost another 6 inches. So I know I haven't quite hit a plateau "yet". You also may want to write down everything you put in your mouth. Sometimes when we do the occasional bite here and there it can add up to calories/fat that can make a difference. I mean if you eat a couple bites of potatoes (depending on the bite that could be a small serving). I mean, 1/2 cup of potatoes is about 80 calories (more if there is butter on them). That would is nothing but wasted calories. Try writing everything down that you eat and then at the end of the day, total everything up. Every little bite. The surgery will work for everyone if they follow the rules. Some choose not to follow the rules and for those it won't work. I know we don't eat like we use to (bags of chips in one sitting), but we do occasionaly slip back and add a snack in here and there. I for one have major trouble with frito corn chips. I won't let my Dad buy the big bags any more (my occasional handfulls would equal over 1 oz worth which is more then what's in the normal serving bag). So now we will buy the single serving bags and I'll have one or two from his bag.
Don't worry, you will continue to do okay. Give it time. Remember, if the scale doesn't show it but the inches are still going down, you're on the correct path. If you haven't already done so, take you measurements and compare once a month. You'll see a result there I'm sure.
Good luck,
Robin

He has to have reconstructive surgery, and it is so "unusual" that there are not many surgeons that do the surgery. One of the best surgeons in the field is located in Beverly Hills so we are still contemplating the trip... Thanks for the crossed fingers... Any little bit helps !

Hey Terri
Is that his only option for California?
If he can pick another spot Fresno has the best Dr's and Hospitals EVER. They were both ranked number one for gastric bypass in the US. Fresno is really a great place and there is tons of support for you both here. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I have tried everything. I have went to liquids for three days. Nothing but protein. I keep my protein above 60 everyday. Usually between 70 and 90. I dont eat bread, pasta, milk, or anything with sugar in the first three ingredients, I drink lots, I dont keep track of my drinking no more. I drink at least a 70 ozs a day and that would be a bad day of drinking. I drink 3 cups of water every morning first thing. And after that it is crystal light and tea with equal all day. My menu consist of yogurt, tuna, salads, an occassional bannana (maybe two per week.) and mostly meats. I eat a lot of meat, smoked turkey, fish, shrimp, I avoid potatoes mostly. but take a bite or two on occasion. I dont eat cereal. and avoid crackers. I dont know what I am doing wrong. I do 30 minutes on the treadmill almost every day. I do have a sendentry lifestyle. I dont do a lot expecially in the winter. I just dont get it. I also do pilates at least three times a week for probale ten to twnty minutes. I cant figure it out. I have only lost like 15 pds in four months, but I have went down from a 20 to an 18 in pants size. Nobody comments on my weight loss. And my aunts tell me that this surgery doesnt work for everyone. I dont know what I am doing wrong.
