TRY THIS:

AM: hot tea first thing! this flushes out the phlegm in your pouch (per my doc) and helps keep u from getting nauseated

1 1/2-2 oz scrambled eggs- make sure they are not dry-- if they are dry  u will get sick
wait an hour-then have a drink

mid-Am: protein shake
wait an hour before drinking

lunch: 1 piece of thin sliced deli turkey rolled up with a little cream cheese in the middle (this fills me up, eat a little more or less if you need to!)
wait an hour before drinking

mid-afternoon: protein shake
wait an hour before drinking

Dinner: 1 1/2-2 oz of baked chicken and if you have room, 1 1/2 oz steamed broccoli- nice and soft
wait an hour before drinking

Try that menu. It works for me, I mix it up. On days that I feel a little blah, my old standby is sugar free natural applesauce with cinnamon and string cheese. just had my protein levels checked (blood test) and I am perfect my doc says! And I thought I wasn't getting enough. I am starting stage 4 and off the shakes (finally!) and adding in more food (which I cannot fit yet). Also, I had a lot of trouble with vomiting so I found what works for me... Hopefully you will find some relief. Stay positive!!

Hang in there. This too will pass. I have been struggling with nausea and chest pain too. Makes me dread eating...what a change! When I felt really yucky this weekend, I went back to creamed soup and broth. Seemed like the warmth was comforting. I hope that you find your "special food" that will comfort you and help you feel better.

Topic: RE: orange juice
Sorry I am so late with the response!! I sure did ask this same question a few weeks ago. But I have since discovered that Minute Maid has a 'light' orange juice that satisfies my cravings perfectly! It has half of the carbs/sugar in it. I love it, and I have not dumped at all with it. I get it from walmart. Make sure its the light orange juice!

Topic: Feeling very lost and overwhelmed
Well, I feel like I am in between a rock and a hard place.  I have been putting up with this stupid nausea for over a week now.  It hasn't been constant, but when it's not nausea, I just feel "blah".

I am not getting anywhere near enough food and liquids in me - so that would explain my "blah" feeling.  I've talked to the nurse today and went over my weekend with her.  She gave me a few pointers as to why I am feeling this way; eating too fast, not pureeing things.......

So my lost and overwhelmed feeling?  I don't know WHAT the hell to eat.....or how much....or how many times a day.........*sigh*

Now I did get a booklet from my surgeon.  And it lists the diff stages and what types of food to eat.  BUT that's it.  I need something structured I can follow right now - like a full meal plan - WHAT to eat for b'fast and how much etc......

Today for the first time the thought crossed my mind "I wish I hadn't done this".....

Topic: RE: What do you drink?
I drink Crystal Light, Propel (but becareful they do have 20 cal per serving and 5g of sugar I don't drink more than 1 a day if I do have one) Sobe life water (watch label some are regular and other ones are the 0 cal) Fuse (once again like the propel has 25 cal per serving so I don't drink them that often) Poweraide Zero, water, sugar free koolaide, iced tea decaf.

Topic: RE: 1 1/2 week out & sipping fluids keep causeing burps & hiccups?
I'm 36 days out from surgery and still have burps, gurgling, and hiccups so don't beat yourself up.  I don't take deep breaths when sipping but when I feel hungry or thirsty I get this rattling of gas pockets.  When this happens I get up and move around.

Topic: RE: Exercise "Are You Doing It?"
I guess I am lucky, I do like to exercise most days.  I work out at LA Fitness with a trainer 3 days a week and walk the other two days.  I can do about 45 minutes on the elliptical or about 30 minutes of circuit training.  I really want to limit the amount of execess skin that develops so I have just started hitting the weights again.  I hope it helps.

I really do feel better the days I goto the gym.  My goal is to burn all the calories I eat durning the day during my workouts.  Not sure if that is a good thing, but I would think that it helps.

Topic: RE: Need some support, feeling blue
I can definitely understand being anxious and upset it isn't going so well. I was expecting to be in a different position also and am not happy but I believe this was the best decision still. I'm supposed to have another surgery after I lose my weight but I'm not sure if I want to go through with it unless there is absolutely no way to solve the issue.

I still eat ice on days everything tastes too sweet, even my favorite sugar free popsicles make me feel nauseous. The surgery really changed a lot of things, including my tastes. But I think that is normal. I have also had to take my vitamins while eating yogurt or my stomach aches.

I would try to remember your reasons for doing the surgery and know they haven't changed. Look towards the prize. I have constant pain and my regular doctor asked my to stop the pain meds for my incision because she doesn't want me to get addicted. I have tons of addicts in my family and fear it. When the incision pain gets really bad, I just remember it's nothing like when my regular pains came back after stopping the pain meds. We can handle a lot, even if we don't want to. I hope that makes sense.

I am walking my dogs as much as I can. I am doing isometric exercises. I was told they were okay to do the day after surgery. You can use your own body weight or use a band. Basically, weight lifting without the weights! My physical therapist has me doing a lot in bed because of my incision.

I am so jealous of everyone that is the pool!
