Topic: RE: 3 weeks post op
I am also 3 weeks postop from lap band. I have lost 28 pounds. I have gone down fron a size 22/20 to a comfortable 18, yet I feel the same. I still feel fat. THe bulges are still there but maybe smaller. When people say I look great it makes me feel uncomfortable because I do not feel like I look great yet. I am very anxious to be minus 50 pounds or more. My husband tells me that I am impatient. It took a long time to get to the point of getting the surgery so I want immediate gratification. Hopefully you are dealing with things a lot less emotionally then I. Good luck

Hi!! I had my surgery a couple days before you (sept 26th) I have been ill since then and in alot of pain....I found out a couple days ago that at some point there was a loss of blood to my spleen which cause part of it to die and now I have pnemonia...I think if I were going to get depressed it would have happened by now...So far so good....I thank god for my husband and children who have been a huge support to me and I also thank God for the opportunity to have a better way of life...I am down 27 pounds today and outside of the pnemonia I feel wonderful!

Topic: 4 1/2 weeks out - hitting a depressing stage
This is my first post, so please be patient. I had open RNY on 9/12/03. Everything is going great. I tried to go back to work 1/2 days after two weeks and ended up an emotional and physical wreck by the fourth day, so the doc told me three more weeks off. I feel ok - only a couple dumping episodes. I have a hard time remembering to eat, so I usually wait until I'm shaky and headachey before I realize. I'm trying to be more careful -- but it seems like I always have something in my mouth when I follow the schedule. I've been really down the last week. I've read through the manual given to me after surgery and it looks like it's normal, but I don't like being down here. How long do we have to wait before we can go back to the Y and exercise? I think that would help. The hardest thing lately has been my knee pain. I had hoped it would get better, but it hasn't yet. It has actually gotten a lot worse--probably from the increased walking. Any ideas? Well, enough grumpiness for now. Hopefully my next post will be more uplifting.
Topic: RE: Am I eating too much?
The guideline I was given was to eat 2 oz. three times per day. I try to hold it to that because I am, of course, TERRIFIED that I'm stretching my stomach pouch, too. I worry about how fast I eat, how much I eat, how much I drink, what I eat...you name it, it all scares me. My surgery date, incidentally, was 9-11-03 (Good thing I'm not superstitious, huh?).

Hi, Angie- I had my lap rny on the same day! I am feeling pretty good..I seem to have some trouble with soft foods..it feels like they sit there in a lump, but it goes away eventually..today I am going back to liquids and am going to call the Dr. just to make sure I am on the right path. Emotionally I feel wonderful!
Keep smiling!

Hi Ange - I had my surgery the same day, laproscopic. I have had every emotion in the book! Anything from depression and crying all night, wondering what the heck I've done to extreme elation! Right now I couldn't be happier that I've done this. It really is worth it. Rena

Topic: RE: What can I eat or can I eat??
Weren't you given a diet to follow when you were discharged from the hospital? If not, call your surgeon's office and ask for one. I'm on full puree diet until Oct 27 (Surgery Sept 16). I was given a long list of suggested foods when I left the hospital. At my first post-op appointment last Monday, the surgeon told me I can now leave small pieces of food in my puree, nothing larger than the tip of my pinky. At my next appointment I'm going to be given a new diet to follow. A typical meal for me: I make some mashed potatoes, runny, blend in an ounce of whatever meat my family is eating, and for a vegetable I will have about 1 TBS squash. Or I make a stuffed shell, throw away 1/2 the pasta and blend with some spinach and sauce. I take chicken vegetable soup, add a little more of my own chicken and puree it. I blenderize a meatball with some ricotta and sauce for a "lasagna". The only thing I haven't had is fish because I can't think of anything appetizing to blenderize it with.

Congrats on your loss, Nikia!
Nouriche has sugar in it, 60 grams of carbs and 290 calories... WAY too much of everything to fit within the dietary guidelines I have been given. I am supposed to use a low-carb protein supplement only.
