Topic: RE: Is there anyone having these problems?
Dear Sheila, Yes, and yes again! Especially the part about wanting to conquer the world in the morning and then needing a nap by early afternoon. And guess what? I have "a slender friend" with 5 children who always took an afternoon nap - not long, but always she took one. And she looks great. It's a struggle to take care of ourselves properly, isn't it? But it's mandatory that we learn. I am working harder at trying to walk than the actual walk is work, if you know what I mean. I'm betwix jobs so the gym is out for now only, but I can walk. I just need some way to trigger me daily. Haven't found it yet. I take the GNC "Hair, Skin & Nails Formula" biotine (horse) pills daily & it seems to have nearly stopped all hair loss. Your hair willl grow back. You need more biotine & protein. Casi, our bariatric nurse, turns green when we say we've cut back on protein drinks. She recommends two daily for the rest of our lives. Unless you're really good at getting the 70 gm. daily minimum on your own. It's hard to do and keep losing. Now I'm using the unflavored Any Whey Powder (protein) with all soft entrees & drinks; the drinks got too sweet. Again, GNC gives 10-20% discount the first week monthly; I got a membership card for greater discounts. Finally, be proud, Girlfriend. 86 pounds!!!! I'm a slow loser and have lost only 35 in 6 months (RNY 9-4-03), but am off 9 RXs & 2 over-the-counter medicines daily, so surgery saved my life. No, WLS gave me a life! Sparkle

Topic: 6 month report!!!
Hi all, Well it has been 6 adventurous months since my surgery. I was one of the few people that had bad complications. I had 3 surgeries in 1 week, and still had a leak and infections. I was in 2 different hospitals had all kinds of Drs. I have lost 85# could have been more but I was on a pic line for 2 and 1/2 months and did not take anything by mouth. My intraveinous feedings had about 2000 calories in them. I was attached to a wound vac because my incision got infected and had to heal from the inside out, so I really couldn't erxercise like I should have. I have been eating now since Christmas and now the wound vac is off I started exercising. In spite of all the problems I had I still am glad I had the surgery. Heres hoping I hit my goal by my first year anniversery. Evelyn

Hi Sheila and everyone else posting and reading... I had surgery on Sept. 11, 2003 and was 252 pounds. I'm down 80 pounds to 172 as of yesterday (my 6 month anniversary). I've enjoyed reading your posts and thinking about how my situation is similar or different. I guess like anything else, we are individuals so what we experience may be different from other's experiences, even with WLS. I had complications right after like bleeding (and a needed blood transfusion) in the hospital, an incision (I had open, not lap) that didn't heal for 6 weeks, nausea for about 3 solid months, etc. Today, at 6 months, I'm only battling the hair loss, which is bothering me a lot. I'm also feeling hungry often, which I didn't think happened for over a year post-op. I'm tollerating sugar and am having some in small quantities. I'm trying to be smart about it and not deprive myself, but not overindulge either. I wanted to have this surgery to change my lifestyle, not keep myself from enjoying food. I just think about my health and how good I'm looking and feeling, and it helps me stay on track. I was scared for the past 3 weeks because I'd hit a plateau and hadn't lost any weight. I automatically thought I was finished, because the BMI chart and prediction chart said at my weight, WLS could help me lost about 75 pounds. I'm happy to report that I lost another 2 pounds this week (finally!), so maybe I'm not done yet. I'm 5'6" and would like to get back to around 140 pounds, so I have about 30 more to go. I'm exercising (walking and using a ball), which I do for my heart and my health. Motivation can be a challenge to all of us, but remember why you decided to make this drastic choice to have surgery...to be healthy! I'm no longer on blood pressure meds, my cholesterol was 175 last Dec., and my sugar is now normal. That makes it worth it. Good luck to all of you!!!

Six months ago today I started my life on the right track at long last. I have lost 133 pounds and 87 1/8 inches and my clothes are falling off!!! What a nice problem to have, but could become quite embarassing, lol. I have not had a single moment of regret from the second I woke up in ICU. No complications whatsoever and the one great fear I had was that I would be hungry all the time and not able to eat. Not to worry, I am never hungry and often have to remind myself to eat, yea!!! Up till that point I honestly believe I never in my life knew what it felt like to feel full and satisfied, I was the proverbial bottomless pitt. Good luck to all of you, I hope everyone has the good fortune to be doing as well as I feel like I am. Have a great weekend!!!

Yesterday was my six month anniversary since surgery. I have lost a total of 90lbs, 378 to 288 I am 6'3"! I have had no complacations (thank God) since surgery. I now work out four to five days a week and run-walk twice a day for about 1.5 miles. Not to shabby for a guy who couldn't run across the street six months ago!!! My only regret is that I waited until I was 57 before having the Surgery. John

Topic: Help..Im being attacked by sugar cravings
Well guys I will be 6 months post op on St. patty's day and for the last 2 weeks or so I am having those old sugar cravings so bad that I am getting scared. I got to be super obese because of sugar and I dont want to let sugar win again. I was 360 on my surgery date and I havnt quit lost 100 pounds yet and now with this sugar jones I am starting to be so worried that my old habits will resurface. I am having sugar free snacks but they dont work. Neither does drinking or protein shakes. I am just obsessing so bad over the cakes, cookies & God help me Krispy Kreme donuts that I am not suppose to have. Oh and lets not forget to add into the equation that I dont dump UGH whats a gal to do??
