I didn't have any stomach problems, just very occasional heartburn. Was told everyone had to have one so that they could rule out any pathology in the surgical site. Scope was a breeze - don't be worried.
I had to have a scope. I have GERD and have had two prior surgeries on my stomach. They wanted to see what was going on in there. I think it all depends on what centre you are with and your medical history.

I was / am at TWH, had very minor GERD (gas & very rare reflux), and a "moderate" hiatus hernia which was diagnosed 15 years ago but which hasn't given me any problems in years. No scope required for me.
