Optifast - Day 5

Day 5, and I'm feeling great!  And I've lost 7 lbs since Monday!  (A little tired from working 13 hrs. yesterday, that's all.)

I've been getting all 4 OF packets each day, and topping that up with the Jello, broth, water, etc.  It's easy to do if you don't fill up on the 'fillers' and concentrate on getting the OF in.  Bumping it up helps the taste, too.

When DH brings in the bbq'd meat, I stand over it and inhale, but I don't eat any.  I enjoy my broth and OF at the dinner table with the family, talk about our day, etc. just as normal.  When they have ice cream, I have a frothy Choc OF - that's my 'treat'.

And it doesn't bother me in the least.  I know this is a means to an end, and it won't last forever.

Did anyone find themselves "nesting" before surgery?  I find that I'm in a big hurry to get stuff done that I wouldn't have been rushed about before - like cleaning the kids rooms (packing up the old stuff they're finding they don't fit into this summer, getting rid of last winter's hangers-on clothes), getting my kitchen in order, etc.  It reminds me of when I was pregnant and wanted the baby's room and house just so beforehand.

Your experience with Optifast is exactly like mine was; I too had no issues with having my shake at the dinner table. I found it filling and I wasn't starving or feeling deprived by the foods that were being consumed around me. (which were plenty because it was Christmas -lol)

I can't say that I was nesting prior to surgery but it was the holidays and I was pretty busy with the usual holiday preparations.

I think that we are the lucky ones, no struggles leading up to surgery and it sounds like you'll be able to hit the ground running after surgery with all your around the house chores done.

Wishing you continued success and an exciting journey.

I totally nested, just like I did when I was pregnant. lol  I think it's all about getting prepared and making sure the family is taken care of.

Missed you Thursday night. Glad to hear that you are doing well with the optifast. I had no problems with it either. I clean house top to bottom before I had surgery. I think I wanted to know I was coming home to a clean house.

Glad you are doing so well with the Optifast!  Keeping nesting now so you will have more time to rest after surgery.  Can't hurt right nd you burning calories so it's a 2 for 1 deal

Keep up the GREAT work!!

I've got a DH and 2 kids, plus a Black Lab and 3 cats (not to mention the kids' friends coming and going).  I could clean to the corners today, and it'd be a mess tomorrow!  LOL!  But I'd rather have 6 kids in my yard than not know where mine are.

Sorry I missed coffee night.  I had a wicked headache (bordering on migraine) and couldn't bring myself to go out.  Next month.

Understand those headaces. Knock on wood   I have not had one of those in a long time but I use to get them often. Mostly with weather changes.  Better not start now that I am typing about them. Interesting now that I think about it I wonder if losing the weight is why I don,t get them so much. I mean I can not remember the last time I had a real bad one and when I was heavy I suffered very often. In the summer and if rain was in the air my head would pound. Could weight have something to do with it who knows but interesting to know.  Not much longer and you will have your operation. Things will be fine and hope to see you at the next coffe meeting. Take care

It's funny... I get a whole different, tactile pleasure experience out of smelling things now. I would have thought before surgery that smelling something I might like to eat but couldn't would make me feel deprived. But I am shocked to find I don't feel that way at all! I find I enjoy the smell of the thing on it's own, independant of the eating of it.

I shouldn't be surprised. I quit smoking 7 years ago, and still love the smell of a fresh pack even though I don't want to smoke one (although smelling someone who just came in from having one makes me nauseated).

Good for you! And good luck with your surgery - coming so soon!

ETA - Oh! I totally nested before surgery. I cleaned, I emptied cupboards, I packed away my biggest summer clothes (rightly assuming I wouldn't need them) I bought my vitamines, picked proteins, bought little tiny plates and bowls and cutlery... I was preparing to change my life forever. :)
