Ok, now *I* have a tattoo question. lol
first of all karen, i think that we should go get tats done together.
and then i should meet your son. i'm just sayin'.
one of my friends has 2 finger tattoos. she has the word "love" written on the side of one finger, and the word "life" on the side of another. she's got several other tattoos (behind the ear/neck, foot, ribs) and said that they were some of the more painful tattoos of the ones she's gotten.
also, as others have said, they do take longer to heal and tend to fade faster/need more frequent touch ups because of how much we use our hands on a daily basis.

Heya,
I have a 'couple' of tattoos, and a lot of people I work with are heavily tatted. A few of my friends have their fingers tattooed, mostly with four or five lettered words IE: Love/Hate/ MAXX (don't ask). All of them have had to have them touched up, including one who got them done eight months ago and NEVER goes into the sun. I also work in health care, and we wash our hands 12 thousand times a day.
I have one on my left inner wrist. It is one of my favs. Says 'Believe' in really nice script. I have had it for over a year and only a little fading so far. The ones on my my forearms are still in great condition.
Butterflies are a great choice. My next one (which will be my 100 pounds loss gift to myself) will be a modified butterfly (the body will be a woman instead of a regular bug shape).
Any shops I have been to will not do tats while on blood thinners, but check with your doc. With increased bleeding, the chances for it to heal are sometimes affected. While it is scabbing, it may bleed again if the scab comes off and the color may not adhere.
Of course they 'hurt', but some find it only a discomfort while others can hardly stand it.
I LOVE tats of all kinds - I find they are a way to signify events that are important in your life in a way that shows growth (or the opposite in our case).
Let us know what the doc says! I will be interested to know.
And I know I don't have to say it .... but always make sure to research your facility and when you do decide on a place, watch while they open their supplies. They won't mind!

Very, very pretty. I love this butterfly design! I agree that it would hurt a lot over the finger. Even more than the wrist I think, but what do I know?? I'll tell you tomorrow morning. Actually, I may be rethinking the wrist thing, only because I found a small graphic of a bird that I might include with it. I still don;t want it on my foot, but now I am thinking top of my shoulder, left side. I couldn't sleep last night at all- just stared into the dar****il about 3:00am. I'm so excited, and nervous too. Here is the pic I want to add. Don't think there will be enough room on the wrist for all of it. I am thinking: the bird, and then at the level of the tail, to add the verse I wanted in a really flowy font. Ahh decisions!

I think that would be extremely cool! My son got a small blackbird on his shoulder with flowy text around it with some of the words to the Beatles song, "Blackbird" (which was a song he and I always sang together when he was younger) - it turned out REALLY well. Is Ian doing your tattoo today?
