KILLER UTI......
Hi Everyone!
I have been battling a urinary tract infection for about 2 days now and it has finally gotten the best of me. I have had them before and I usually just go on a water and cranberry diet for a day or two and I am usually able to flu**** away.. Well not so much this time..I think I may even be passing a small kindey stone..(which I have also done before) because there is a small amount of blood in my urine.. Long story short, I am going to the walk in clinic tonight because I can't get in to see me family doctor.. But I just wanted to know what I should get for antibiotics..I imagine this is what I will get but I dont know if I should get regular penecillin, or amoxicilin.. or if it has to be in tablet form or if I can take capsules..lol.. HELP!
Thanks so much!!

ask your pharmacist about what formulation the med should be in, tell the pharm what kind of surgery you had, they should be able to tell you.
as for penicillin, amoxicillin, that's up to the prescribing doctor. It depends on what kind of a bug it is. Tell the doc that you had wls and your concerns about absorption of the medication.

I have had quite a few UTI's in the past, but none recently thank heavens.. I do however get yeast infeactions after antibiotics, especially after antibiotics to combat UTI's..
Once you have seen a doctor or nurse practitioner about your UTI, and have been put on a regime of antibiotics, you might want to consider starting a regime of ACIDOPHILUS to lessen the chance of yeast infection which can result when you are on antibiotics. Antibiotics kill off bacteria, including the "good bacteria" in your system, and acidophilus combats yeast. Yeast is a fungus that thrives when the "good bacteria" are not present to prevent it from taking hold in your system.. so.. you need to eat greek yogurt and take acidophilus (6 to 10 billion units per capsule) with food, daily to keep yeast from overtaking your system.
Also.. I have found, having had many UTI's in the past, that a daily regime of a cranberry extract pill keeps my bladder lining less likely to be a good lodging place for bacteria.. the cranberry extract seems to make the bladder lining more acidic and bacteria don't build up as easily in the bladder.
also.. drink water to keep your bladder flushed out..
and needless to say, women have shorter urethras (that little opening from outside to bladder is only about 1 and 1/2 inches long in women) so remember to pee after sex, to prevent bacteria from travelling up to the bladder.

I went to the clinic and (as I already knew..lol) I have a baaad UTI. She prescribed me Macrobid to take 2x a day for 7 days. I double checked with the pharamacist to make sure it was okay and she said it was... Hopefully I'll start feeling better soon!
