Medic Alert bracelet - my pics
I recently ordered my Medic Alert tag from www.laurenshope.com. I only got the tag because I want to make my own bracelets for it. Here's the first bracelet I've made, and the tag I ordered. The Medical Alert symbol comes in several different colours, but I choose white so it goes with everything. I do note that the tag itself is not a thick at the ones you can buy at the mall.

On the back of the tag I have my name, my surgery, "No Blind NG Tube", "Use Caution: NSAIDS", and ICE: (hubby's cell).

I got a few interchangeable bracelets from Ebay for $10 each that I love. Gotta like the prices compared to other places. They have a little bit of stretch which makes it easier to get on and off. This is a picture of my favourite one from ebay.

Linda's daughters also made a few that were really reasonably priced. I like having variety! LOL
yes it is, because if you are ever ever unconcious
..and have to have medical attention or are placed in an ambulance, you do not want the paramedics or staff at the hospital sticking a tube down your throat, because you now have a pouch and not a stomac
h..so without them knowing that they could cause a puncture in your pouch and also because you cannot take NSAIDS.
here is a previous thread on one of the other main forums on this board on this very topic

YES you can have NSAIDs in a LIFE SAVING EMERGENCY. We were specifically told that we absolutely should not write on our medic alert bracelets that we can't have NSAIDs. If you have a stroke or a heart attack, you need NSAIDs to save your life in the first minutes of treatment. The small risk of ulcers is less important than SAVING YOUR LIFE after a stroke or heart attack. And yes, the team at TWH specifically advised me of this.
For the same reason - you should NEVER say 'no sugar' on your bracelet. If you go into a hypo-glycemic coma, you need immediate sugar to SAVE YOUR LIFE!
Medic alert bracelets are absolutely not required, but if you do get one, make sure it doesn't end up killing you! The only thing it needs to say is "RNY Gastric Bypass" and your ICE number, that's it.
I did the same with mine.
I'd rather wear it like jewellery.
I made about 6 of them and changed them up, but then a friend of mine (Who's really good at it, (thanks Linda)) made me one out of crystal and i just love, i don't need to switch anymore. goes with everything.
i've actually made a couple for friends, and yes only cost me $25 for the tag, much cheaper.
