Question About Opti Fast

Hi everyone,

I just started my Opti Fast today. I am a little worried that I might overdue it on the foods that we are aloud to have while on Opti. Today I had three cups of beef broth. It really helped me to take the edge off. I also had a sugar free popsicle. Is this too much? I keep having these thoughts that I am going to get to the day of surgery and find out the they can't do the surgery because I didn't do this part right.

Any comments, advice, suggestions is welcomed. Thank guys!

Your doing fine.  As long as it's sugar free/decaf.  I'm starting week 2 and struggling with some of the same issues of craving something warm and savary .  I did get into some intolerance and had to add benifibre to the drink (to bulk up to slow down the diarrhea worked well).  I love the product Unjury chicken soup powder (best thing I ever had)  and great for post -op planning.  Only challenge is you have to order online and have it shipped to Canada. Down 11 lbs and in ketosis.  ps get some listerine breath strips as the ketosis kicks in you'll need them

Will take a kayaking trip summer 2012, freedom

 Hi Roxy,

I was allowed to have only 20 calories above my Optifast a day.  Whether it was a dribble of milk in my coffee or two packets of Oxo broth or whatever.  I was told to count sugar free gum even if it had a calorie or two.  No veggies of any sort were allowed and no one ever mentioned sf popsicles to me so as you can see, my plan was pretty strict.  I would check to make sure that the beef broth is ultra low calorie then have at her!  It sounds to me like you're doing great.

What clinic are you going through? At St. Joes Hamilton we are allowed unlimited amount of those things while on OF so drink up

Hi, I'm finished 8 days of optifast and found that the chicken and beef broth have helped fill the void mostly late afternoon.  In my book from ottawa wmc we were allowed clear broth, sf jello, sf popsicles, water, decaf tea, decaf coffe etc.  and no more than 20 cal per day from sf. mints/gum etc.

So far I am good even managed to get through my daughter's birthday dinner at East Side Mario's last night with broth soup and water with lemon, while everyone else enjoyed their pasta and choc cake.  Funny thing was I was full part way through my soup and just got to enjoy the conversation and company instead of what I was eating.

Good luck, see you on the bench in a couple of weeks.

Just make sure the broth is low sodium and low fat and you'll be fine.

Best of luck,
Alla.

I used broth at the beginning and now I don't. Around the second week that void or feeling that I should be consuming more left me. Now I'm just having 3-4 optifasts.

Thanks for the info everyone. It really helps to have some feedback. I lived through day one and am half way through day two and feeling strong.

Right now, I do need the beef broth in order to keep my sanity. I am really glad that I am not over doing it. I would never want to do anything to jepordize my surgery.

Thanks again for your posts. It is so nice to know I am not alone in this.

The only that would jeopardize your surgery are carbs... make sure you're not consuming carbs that are not fibre or sugar alcohols and you'll be fine.
