Question from my hospital bed

When were you allowed to use GasX sublingual strips?
As usual tonight, I can't get a nurse to answer my ringer. Last time I rang bell when Sean was still here, we waited 10 minutes while I was literally in tears from the pain, so Sean had to go get one from the nurses' station, he was shocked to see them just standing there, and one was even texting on her cell phone! Maybe that's the problem?maybe I need to send texts for help? Maybe nurse will give me her number?

Sorry for the rant, I came in Here so happy, so positive and the way I've been treated so far is borderline appalling. If u want more details on what's been happening to me here, check out the thread about 8-9 posts down, where I replied to the "Welcome to the Bench" thread posted by my Angel. Thank you again folks, for all your kindness and support, you people inspire and empower me on this journey. Just knowing you are all here helps so much.

Ok, about this gasX strips, how soon were you able to take them?

i'm sorry you're not being treated well. Ask to speak to the nurse manager to get your concerns listened to.

I never used GasX strips, but i can't see why they'd be contraindicated at any time.

toni....please please please make sure you talk to the nurse manager about this. Try and remember nurse names and talk to you NP from the clinic about your expirience good and bad. They need to know about the foolishness going on in after care and your lack of support

Hey Toni, I am happy to hear the surgery went well and very sorry for the treatment you have been getting. It brings back memories of when my nephew was born and the nurses spoke a little to freely and loudly outside of my sisters room. Needless to say the nurse was suspended on the spot without pay. Try not to be afraid to be vocal it doesn't matter why, what or how you ended up there. These nurses are paid to take care of you.

I hope your night went well and today even better. Good luck on the pains getting better too!!

I was told that while in the hospital we couldn't use them because they want that gas to move through naturally to ensure there are no issues with our intestines.  I had alot of gas pain too.  I was in my hospital bed crying and writhing in pain and there was nothing I could do about it but keep walking.  Sorry you are having a hard time. :(  I was in the hospital from Monday to Thursday and I spent the whole day Wednesday crying.  Hang in there, this is the hardest part.  When the surgeon comes in to see you, ask him about the GasX because the nurses don't always know what is allowed or not.

I used the Gas-X strips immediately!

and you definitely need to report these nurses. Save future patients from this kind of neglect!

Oh Toni, I'm so sorry to hear about such poor treatment - that is just unbelieveable & you should not have to put up with it! Make your voice heard to whoever is in charge, even if it means raising a real stink!  I'm sure glad that most nursing staff is not like that - my sister is a nurse & she would just be appalled to hear this! She loves working with her patients & she treats them very well, especially her bariatric patients.  This is scary news for those of us who will be heading to TWH for WLS - we should be prepared by knowing who to contact if this happens to us; maybe the patient advocate at the hospital? I'm really sorry to hear about the gas pains - I'm sure that someone will chime in on how soon you can take the GasX strips. I hope that you pass some of that gas as soon as possible & get some relief & I hope those nurses smarten up & take better care of you! You'll soon be going home & you'll feel a lot better then! Sending a big hug to you!

Ladies, just an update...day shift nurses are MUCH NICER and not so stingy with the pain meds. Last time I saw night shift nurse with no name (she wouldn't answer me when i asked), she told me she brought me something for the pain, then left without hooking the drip!

Oh you better believe I will be addressing this issue when I am feeling stronger. For now I sm trying my best to stay positive and do all the right things to start feeling better. The gas pain is brutal, definitely the hardest part so far.

Thank you all so much for being there for me to vent to, even if it's electronically! :)
