hi again, just wondering how soon after you got home that you showered and/or got your incisions wet?
how long before you peeled off the tape?
i didnt think to ask this before i left hospital,, and i see no mention of it in my discharge instructions.
thanks for your help

Hi - you can shower 3 days after surgery, but do not stand in directly belly to water for 10 days. The steelers ps should come off by the, selves 7 days after you leave hospital.....otherwise you can peel them off. I waited 10 days to remove myself.

Good luck and welcome home!

I was told by St Joe's to wait 7 to 10 days before you can get them wet and you can show 4 days after surgery, but try and not get them wait.  They also said that I can just allow them to come off on there own or wait the 7 to 10 days.
Congrats on the surgery, I hope your feeling better now that your at home.

I showered at the hospital before I left.  The nurse asked me if I wanted to, so I did.  Then she removed the gauze since it was soaking wet.

As for at home, I think I waited 3 days, and like others have said, back to the water, don't scrub the incisions, gently pat dry - basic stuff.

WOW, in Ottawa, the day after surgery they took us for a shower.  I washed my hair, and my front, the PCA washed my back all the way down to my ankles.  It was wonderful.  The tape over the incisions are fine.  Just don`t scrub your belly, let the water flow over you.

However, you may wish to contact your centre for their guidance.

Hi Judy.. What is a PC? Was the shower (and/or the help) optional in Ottawa? My surgery will be in Ottawa - not sure how I feel about having help in the shower :(

Hi Susan,

Answering for Judy (in case she misses this) as I had my surgery in Ottawa as well. I believe a PC is like a Personal Care attendant.  I did not have to have one. I showered on my own the morning after surgery.

Yes, that is the explanation for a PCA - personal care attendant.  Thanks April :)
