you can have IV NSAIDS.. I was given IV NSAIDS in the hospital during my 2 day stay because I am alergic to narcs... you cant have oral NSAIDS

you can also have creams like voltaren which is a topical NSAID

All forms of NSAIDS are to be avoided due to the risk of marginal ulcers. Also the possibility of ulcer in the blind portion of the stomach.

NSAIDS are systemic meaning they travel through the blood stream no matter how you take them or apply them.

It is best to avoid them all together especially if you have recently had your weight loss surgery.

thats odd because I was on IV Toradol right after my RNY once my IV was removed I still had the line I was hooked back up to an IV to administer more Toradol every 6 hours while I was in the hospital and the morning of release Dr. P.Hong ordered 1 shot of toradol IM ,,,and when I asked her about voltaren for my knee she said it was OK for topical or IM / IV... NEVER OK  for oral for the reasons you mentioned... she did ask if i had a history of ulcers.. and the answer was no so maybe thats a factor

my surgery was just in June

I too broke a bone and sprain the ankle last week.  Take tylenol and keep foot elevated.  I got an aircast so I am able to ice it frequently.  It will take longer for the swelling to go but eventually it will.  My swelling was so bad that I kept losing feeling in the toes.  Keep your head up.

I have been given the green light for topical anti-inflammatory cream by my GP and pharmacist for other issues not similar to a bone break.
Your post reminds me to check in about this once again with my specialist to refresh my memory on the details
Sure sounds like ice and elevation are your best friends right now.
