Hi, I am just past 3 weeks post op.  Everything I have eaten has gone down nicely and I have had no issues with smells or nausea.  I am so afraid that I will be able to anything will start to gain weight.  This is because of a dream I had last night where I was eating cookies and didn't dump or get sick.  I have lost 13 lbs since surgery.  Is that good?  I don't know.  I seem to be second guessing everything I am doing.  My sisters want to have a cake for my birthday next weekend.  She is getting a diabetic cake.  Is that alright to eat?  I would appreciate some advice.  Thank you.  You are all great!

I would not even think about eating a piece of cake even if it is a diabetic cake so soon out. I know it is your Birthday but you can survive without cake. It just is not worth it.

I say give your head a shake!  At 3 weeks out most people are still fighting to get in fluids and water.  In my opinion and it is only my opinion so take it for simply that....but I would NOT have the cake.  I wouldn't even think about having the cake.  Thank them for the gesture but tell them you're going to pass!  Diabetic cake is still cake....and I'm pretty sure that the plan from your hospital doesn't have cake listed as one of your allowed foods for week 3.

WLS is simply a tool.  It doesn't magically make the carbs and cals from crap like cake go away! Everyone is different and I would recommend you wait a while longer to see how you've done weight loss wise.  It sounds fine to me but I'll let a vet let you know about that.  I'm finding it hard to believe you would ask if you can eat cake 3 weeks post op.

I'm pre op but get that after all this your afraid, try to allow your body to heal, follow your plan and in due time you will know what foods you can not eat.  13 pounds sounds perfect and the cake thing well smile knowing they mean well and you have come to far to be testing things out so soon.  Introduce them to egg face for future celebrations and ask maybe for a gift card to go shopping for your new clothes instead of the cake.  The first few weeks sound tough so wrap yourself in love and support and you will be okay.  Truly I wish you well and by the way two two birthdays in a one month period of time too cool.
 Respectfully Jane

Thank you for the reality check.  I was only getting the cake because my sister's didn't want me to be disappointed.  I really don't want the cake and have no urge to eat it.  So, instead it will be a birthday pudding.  I am content with that and not disappointed at all.

Just for your birthday so you DO at least have a "cake"

Like you, I seem to be having an easier time than some when it comes to food etc. And there are times when I think "This won't hurt".

It will

You're rocking it.. dont chance it ......

Not a good idea Laura, I don't see cake on the food plan for three weeks out. Maybe by this time next year you can have a sliver. Personally cake does not do it for me anyway.

I have to say that was a really nice gesture of her. I would tell her so.

I found that whatever I tried eating I could tolerate (not right away but a little further out).

I know I can eat cake and cookies and french fries and ice cream etc.

If I didn't try these things and kept assuming I would get sick or dump on them I probably wouldn't be tempted to eat them now.

What  I'm saying is once you know you can eat a certain item the more likely you are to do so.

Stay away from the 'treats' and the least healthy choices for as long as you can!

The surgery does not help with WHAT you put into your mouth only HOW MUCH>> I am one of the rare few the doesn't have the "begging for death" dumping at least not yet, all I get is Hot flashes so far.  You will be suprised at how much your taste buds will change when you can start eating normal food again, I am 3 months post op on the 19th, at my daughter bday, I had a extreamly small piece of cake, about a tablespoon, I tried it and thought "this isn't that good, not worth the extra calories at all", so I had about two tiny bites and the rest went into the garbage.  At Thanksgiving, my brother in law made 3 pies, I had one tiny bite out of each one and was happy, it did take control but I just convince myself that anymore will make me deathly ill and that stops me easily....lol

Mind over matter will help you!

Good luck!
