calculating intake
What tool do people use to calculate protein/calories etc? I am googling but getting lost and frustrated. I don't have fitbit.

My fitbit is great for tracking exercise bit I still use mfp for food. The great thing is that if you have a phone, the app has a great button that graphs your percentages. As you go along, aiming for the 40/30/30 rule is pretty important. (protein/fat/carbs). It's an excellent tool.

I use Sparkpeople which is very similar to MFP, but I think your question is how to calculate your Protein/Carb/Fat/Calorie targets. Here's something I have copied in a folder from awhile back - I've used it every time I need to recalculate my intake. I have it below for my current intake, but you could easily edit for your target calories or protein:
Target is 40% protein, 30% carbs, 30% fats.
1g fat = 9 calories
1g protien = 4 calories
1g carb = 4 calories
1g alcohol = 7 calories
1200 calorie diet
120g protein = 480 calories
90g carbs = 360 calories
40g fat = 360 calories
