I still prefer beef. Chicken is just difficult for me to eat since surgery. Unless it is soup and really moist it is too dry. I wish I could find ways to fix it to make it more edible for me. I have a rump roast marinating for sauerbraten. I plan to have that with red cabbage and spaetzle tomorrow. Then will use it for sandwiches or quick meals for a few days. It is something I really like to eat. There used to be a German resturant here years ago and I learned to love German foods.
I love ocean whitefish and sometimes get a box from a company in Alaska. There is a new Korean resturant here and I ate there once a few months ago. We had a big crowd and got a lot of dishes to share. Everything was so good. I plan to eat there more often this year, but when the weather is better. We are having lots of snow and very cold temperatures, so I am inside most of the time.
I bought a kit for water gardening almost a year ago. I finally got it out last month and planted thyme, basil, parsley and tiny cherry tomatoes. The basil and thyme are thriving and will be ready to start cutting soon. The parsley is slow, but I am having fun watching it. The garden automatically turns on for 16 hours a day and then 8 hours of no lights. I used to buy them as gifts for other people and finally bought one for myself. I miss fresh herbs in the winter and do buy them but it is fun to watch them grow.
I had blood work early this morning and it was about 2 degrees here. The hospital was crowded and I was there for an hour and a half waiting. My sister was with me and we were talking in the waiting area. This lady was in a room with the nurse. She got up and came over to us and was mad that we were talking. Said she could not hear and shut and locked the door to the little room. What a witch. I was not sitting there when she came out but she went to my sister and told her that she was rude. My sister ended up calling her the F word and my sister does not confront others or swear. I felt bad that she got exposed to that toxic lady.
Most people are nice and I don't know what happens to some of them. She was probably in her 50's and loooked "normal" but you can never tell. We stopped at McDonalds and got breakfast to go. It is cold here but the sun is shining and the snow is pretty.

Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
Those 4 will be our breeders, but the offspring will be for eating.
I would have said ham for you Grim. Yes, it is so nice having the days a little longer each day.
I noticed that it was a little lighter out when I got home last night, also.

Hi gang. Nothing really new to report. I've had a good daily routine since the first of the year, and that helps control eating. It's nice to see days get a wee bit longer.
QOTD: Beef. I like all the others, but I have beef most often.
Have a great weekend, all.

Good Morning Jennifer and Menuers,
The rabbits are so cool. Do you raise them as pets, or do you use them for food/ or both? I will be late posting for the unforeseeable future. Getting ready to launch another new system here at work. It was -2 on the dog walk this morning. I can't wait till the weather breaks. This weekend doing Mom duty and I have 2 cycle classes scheduled. Tomorrow I will be making Beef stroganoff. We need a warm and hearty meal since it is in the single digits. Watching the Steelers game tomorrow evening. Hoping they are better than they have been these last 4 games.
QOTD: We buy a 1/2 cow off a local farmer every year for last 2 years. But I prefer chicken but the sore bout stuff at Aldi is not quality, and I do not know where to get fresh local chickens.

Mel you do such beautiful work. I don't think I would have the patience to work with those links.
Hi All!
I should probably start posting regularly again. My weight is up (probably due to holiday (over)eating and not getting as much exercise because - winter. I need to get it all back under control before it really gets out of hand.
we're moving my mom to a new facility on Monday (she's been living in a senior independent living community for the last 10 years, but she'll be moving to an assisted living community because she needs more support now - plus she was diagnosed with dementia last month (we'd been suspecting it since last spring) so I wanted her in a place that has a memory care unit, too. They can usually take care of people with mild or moderate dementia in their assisted living apts, but once it gets severe - or if they're an escape/wandering risk - they move them over to the memory care unit. Easier and less traumatic (for her) to move her now than wait until her dementia gets really bad. So I spent a lot of time looking for places for her and then getting things packed up and ready for her to move, since she can't do much on her own any more. Everything seems like such a chore - even changing your address is a PITA. It'll probably take another couple of weeks to get her settled in the new place and closed out of the old one (cleaning, storing some things she no longer has room for - and getting rid of some of her furniture), but once that's all over, it'll be a huge relief. I've also dealt with some health issues with my ancient cat (he's almost 20), including a near-death period when I thought we'd have to put him down, but he's improved since then and is stable - for now at least. I've also had to have my hip replacement surgery rescheduled twice because of another health issue that had to be resolved before the surgeon would do the surgery. but it's now scheduled for March 17th. Hopefully third time's a charm! Might be better anyway since I was originally supposed to go in December (which would have made my mom's move in early January next to impossible), and the second time it was supposed to be Jan 27 (risk of bad weather), so this new date may be better anyway.
ok - sorry to go on and on - and those of you whom I'm FB friends with have heard most of this stuff - but I figured I'd update the rest of you..
QOTD: I rarely eat meat anymore - my protein comes from dairy, soy, and beans mostly. And protein shakes (or other protein-infused things like protein ice cream). When I do eat meat it's usually chicken or fish. I don't like the taste of beef anymore...been away from it for too long, I guess...
B: plain skyr topped with a few pieces of cooked apple and a couple tablespoons of homemade (and SF) apple butter
S: protein shake and three cups of Lesser Evil popcorn
L: one of my film groups is meeting at a Chinese restaurant today. I'm planning to order hot & sour soup and a veggie spring roll
S: I hope nothing since I'm eating two meals out today - but if I'm really hungry, maybe a L&F yogurt with a spoonful of tahini mixed in
D: a few of us are meeting at a friend's for game night (Rummikub or Euchre). Someone is bringing black bean soup, and I made some cornbread, which I hope will be gone by the end of the night (and not all eaten by me! I'm planning on only eating one piece). I hope others don't bring a bunch of sweet treats because I just started reining in my eating within the last week or so - I don't want to blow it this soon since I've been on a roll!
hope everyone is doing well!
