The only problem is if they used a mesh band. If a mesh (such as Gortex) was used then it will increase your potential for a leak in the staple line of bypass.
You might be stuck with an adjustable Lap Band as your option for revision depending on the job it did on your stomach.

I'd have to say that I would never have such a procedure. Heck, I regret getting a Lap Band, too.
The problem with Gortex is that if you ever need to revise to another procedure most are stuck with an adjustable Lap Band such as Inamed. The Gortex can often times prevent a sleeve or RNY due to the damage it does in the stomach, no staple line can be done safely in many (most?) people.
There is a reason most doctors won't do this procedure and consider it antiquated and outdated. Same holds true for Mini Gastric Bypass.

Congratulations Donna! I'm very impressed with your story. Most people wouldn't go through it again, nor have that type of success. I'm very confident in my doctor and the way he does it. He's actually considered one of the pioneers in these types of procedures and laparoscopic stuff. He just did a lap band laparoscopicaly to a man almost 700lbs! When he does the VBG or creates any staple line, he uses 12 rows of staples and also puts a gortex band around the pouch. So, it's kind of like the Lap band, just not adjustable. Congratulations again and keep up the fantastic attitiude!

I don't know how they do it now a days but I had it done back in /87 and was able to go from 260 down to 113 lbs. for several years. Then the staples start to separate and I had to diet again for few more years to stay at 113 lbs. The fault mostly was the way the surgeons did the staple line so I hope for those of you having it more recent they have changed it radically.
BTW now I am revised to the Lap Band almost 2 and a half years ago and back down to 119 lbs. from 251 lbs. and thrilled.
You are already done so just keep working it but one word of advice, don't eat till your full. To quote my surgeon for the band "The question is not how much I can eat to feel full, but how little I can eat until I am satisfied."
The biggest cause of VBG failure is over the years restretching out our pouch.
Best wishes,

Topic: Staple line rupture
I had a VGB 9 yrs ago and recently found out that I have a staple line rupture. How serious is this? I have read that it is vey common in the VBG. My doctor wants to do a revsion to a RNY. Is there a possiblity of having this repaired? and if it can be repaired what is the chance of it rupturing again?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

It tastes disgusting, but works well. Drink meat tenderizer mixed with water. It breaks down the protein. I also try the 3 big gulps of water to try to bring it up, but depending what it is, the tenderizer works almost every time!

I had the VBG over 4 years ago and am incredibly happy! Meat was more difficult at first, but once I learned and got accustomed to chewing things really fine and making sure it was moist, I have no problems! Read my blog stuff if you want. I tell about my total experience. I wouldn't have chosen any other surgery if Ihad to do it again!

say anything you want...I just want anyone that reads this to know what the facts are with the VBG. I am glad you have been OK so far and I hope it continues. Did you ever wonder why this site is like a ghost town???? Come on, you can't be that thick. Glad you will not be replying. I hope the best for you and anyone else with this surgery.

I could go into pages of reasons and proof that would prove your comments wrong, as well as documented medical history of the VBG vs. other weightloss surgery, but it is obvious you are angry because the tool didn't work for you. So, because it didn't work for you, OBVIOUSLY it is the worst thing on earth. At almost 4 1/2 years out, I'm not having a single problem that you did, I feel great and have kept my weight off with little effort. I'm not going to reply anymore to this, since your mind is made up, but I suggest you do more homework on this rather than discrediting something with baseless information.
